Ratings Analysis: Two classic Christmas movies faced off on Christmas Eve, but one had a clear advantage, that being 1990 film Home Alone (0.65). ABC's broadcast of the Macaulay Culkin staple beat out NBC's telecast of It's A Wonderful Life (0.42) head-on, even though the latter was actually up from 2022. Life had rotten lead-in help from reruns of 5 More Sleeps 'Til Christmas (0.08) and Night Court (0.12), while ABC began the night with an AFV encore (0.25) and followed Home Alone with a Celebrity Family Feud one (0.40). On CBS, 60 Minutes (0.30, -0.10) slipped to yet another season low after setting one last week. It was followed by holiday-themed editions of Lingo (0.20) and Loteria Loca (0.12) that underwhelmed in the Nielsen department. Fox had more NFL help than usual and used the extra assistance to boost The Simpsons (1.80, +1.27) to its highest rating of the season. Reruns of Krapopolis (0.83), HouseBroken (0.51), and Family Guy (0.43) clearly benefited as well. The Chosen (0.07, +0.04) climbed higher for its CW finale.
Finals Update: It's A Wonderful Life (+0.1), NFL Overrun (+2.1), The OT (+1.4), The Simpsons (+0.3), 60 Minutes (+0.1), and the repeat of Krapopolis (+0.1) adjusted up. The repeat of Celebrity Family Feud (-0.1) adjusted down.
