ESPN Introduces New ‘ABC on ESPN’ Programming Block As Sports Programming Shifts to ESPN+

First, ESPN brought simulcasts of Monday Night Football to ABC under the branding ‘ESPN on ABC’. Now, ABC is returning the favor, with simulcasts of some of their own series planned to air on ESPN. Dubbed ‘ABC on ESPN’, the deal will begin in fall 2024 with ESPN simulcasting every episode of the following series:

-Abbott Elementary
-America’s Funniest Home Videos
-American Idol
-High Potential
-The Bachelor
-The Bachelorette
-The Golden Bachelor
-The Golden Bachelorette
-The Great Christmas Light Fight

‘ABC on ESPN’ will displace several live sports broadcasts, which will now air instead on ESPN+. A subscription to the streaming service is on sale through June 31, 2024 for $1/month for the first 12 months. With more programming than ever, the regular monthly rate for ESPN+ will increase from $10.99/month to $14.99/month effective September 31, 2024.

As to not leave sports enthusiast viewers behind, ABC’s shows that are part of the ‘ABC on ESPN’ block will have more sports-related synergy. For example, Abbott Elementary is planning a one-hour special where the characters go to a Philadelphia Eagles game. Various surprise guest stars will appear on the episode. Plus, American Idol will be replacing Katy Perry with an athlete to be named later on the judges panel, and all upcoming Bachelor franchise stars will also be athletes. America’s Funniest Home Videos will have an almost exclusive emphasis on sports-related videos.
