NBC Renew/Cancel Week 2: Superstore Not Off to a Super Start

Since my last NBC Renew/Cancel, NBC brought back their longest-running sitcom and said "sayonara" to another. Keep reading to see my prediction for Superstore and my final thoughts on Connecting!

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Superstore: We're only two episodes into the season, but it's been a rough season for the folks at Cloud 9. The veteran NBC comedy is averaging just a 0.56 thus far, down 27%. It was never a massive performer for NBC, but was doing well enough before to justify it as a certain renewal. Now, it's hard for me to declare that, at least so early. It's a solid performer (by NBC comedy standards), so it's hard to imagine its audience dropping so much that it gets canceled, but with star America Ferrera leaving the show, it's a possibility. Her last episode aired last week, so we'll get to see how it stabilizes very soon. It's possible that the show could drop further without one of its core cast members who was around from the beginning, or it could remain at 0.5, which is enough to easily be renewed on the weakest network for comedy. For now, it starts as a LIKELY RENEWAL.

Transplant: The Canadian import got its first taste of the post-This Is Us life this week, and things went... interestingly. It actually dropped despite a stronger drama lead-in, going from impressive retention to poor retention in a single episode. It's probably still doing enough for NBC to bring it back, even if it doesn't look nearly as strong. It LEANS RENEWAL.

Connecting...: NBC put this comedy out of its misery last week, after just three excruciating weeks. It was averaging just 0.31, and was always seen as a massive underdog for a renewal. This was a correct prediction.
