American Housewife: In its fifth season, American Housewife is holding down the 8:30 slot decently for ABC. It's retaining its Goldbergs lead-in pretty well, averaging about 85% retention of Goldbergs in the first two episodes. That's an improvement on the 79% retention that Schooled had in that slot. That doesn't seem like a big improvement, but considering that Schooled was both unowned and essentially another half-hour of The Goldbergs, Housewife is doing well in this slot. It could drop a bit as the season goes on, leading to a cancellation, but because I don't have a crystal ball and can't see into the future, it looks good for now. It starts as a LIKELY RENEWAL.

The Good Doctor: The only drama to premiere on ABC thus far this season, The Good Doctor had a pretty rough year-to-year decline with a 0.65-ish return, down 30% despite a steady lead-in. 0.65 is a solid rating for 10 PM, so Good Doctor is still in good shape. It just isn't the hit it used to be, and that is okay. It's going to decline further as the season goes along, but will probably still settle at ratings high enough to be ABC's #1 or #2 10 PM shows. However, it isn't produced fully by ABC, being a joint production with Sony. For that reason, it'll start off as only a LIKELY RENEWAL out of an abundance of caution.
