INT. APARTMENT - DAY
Andrew enters the apartment. Megan is on the couch watching tv.
MEGAN
How was your summer?
ANDREW
Fine. You?
MEGAN
Well, I survived coronavirus and murder hornets. Oh and I met the love of my life.
ANDREW
Really? You?
MEGAN
Are you saying that lesbians can’t be in love Andrew?
ANDREW
What? No. I-I... You know, ... you aren’t exactly the type to seek out a relationship.
MEGAN
Normally yes but she's amazing.
ANDREW
Where’d you two meet?
MEGAN
The student union. We both ran into each other and dropped our stuff.
ANDREW
Classic rom-com meet cute.
MEGAN
Yes, yes it was.
Andrew walks over to Edison’s room and stands in the doorway. Edison’s room is empty.
MEGAN
He didn’t come back if that’s what you’re wondering.
ANDREW
Did he come by at all?
MEGAN
Once. He forgot his phone charger.
Andrew joins Megan on the couch.
MEGAN
How are you and Sarah?
ANDREW
We’re good. It's still a little awkward knowing that she and Edison went out. But we weren't together then so I can’t be mad at her.
MEGAN
It still bothers you, doesn't it?
ANDREW
Yes, yes it does! Edison knew I liked here from the very beginning and then he goes and-and ugghhhhhhhhhh!
MEGAN
Both of you said some hurtful things to each other.
ANDREW
All I did was say that he and Brittaney were just a fling. It’s the truth.
MEGAN
What if someone said that you and Gabby were a fling?
ANDREW
That’s different.
MEGAN
How?
ANDREW
We were in love.
MEGAN
Didn’t you dump her after taking ecstasy?
ANDREW
Honestly, I don’t really remember that night. But during the time we were dating, we were in love, at least that’s what I felt.
MEGAN
From what I’ve heard, so were Edison and Brittaney.
Andrew and Megan sit in silence.
ANDREW
It doesn’t matter anymore. He’s gone.
MEGAN
I’m sure if you made a genuine apology, he would come back.
ANDREW
You really think so?
MEGAN
Yes. Just say you’re sorry.
ANDREW
Ok. Ok, I’ll do it. What’s his address?
Megan pulls out a sticky note and writes the address down.
MEGAN
You didn’t get it from me. He only told me where he lives so that we could play Starquest together.
ANDREW
Wait a second. My fleet has been attacked by two other fleets for the past couple of months. Was that you two?
Pause.
MEGAN
No.
INT. EDISON’S NEW APARTMENT
Edison sits on the couch in his new apartment watching TV. He is surrounded by candy bar wrappers, chips bags, and soda cans. There is a knock at the door and Edison answers it. Standing outside is Andrew.
EDISON
What do you want?
ANDREW
First of all, hey and second, can we talk?
EDISON
How did you find out where I live?
ANDREW
The yellow pages?
EDISON
Megan told you didn’t she?
ANDREW
She thinks we should talk.
EDISON
About what? I have nothing left to talk to you about.
ANDREW
I think we should talk about what happened. Before Summer.
EDISON
I don’t want to talk about that.
ANDREW
So what, we’re just gonna stay away from each other? Edison, we’re friends.
EDISON
We WERE friends.
ANDREW
Look, can I just come in so we can talk?
EDISON
Sorry, we don’t really like having anyone in the apartment.
ANDREW
We?
Paul appears behind Edison.
PAUL
Yo, who is it? Andrew? Yo Andrew, what’s up?
ANDREW
Paul?
PAUL
Dude come on in.
EDISON
Andrew was just leaving.
PAUL
Ah, c’mon Eddy let him in.
ANDREW
Eddy?
EDISON
Don’t.
Edison reluctantly allows Andrew inside.
PAUL
So what’s up man? What’ve you been up to?
ANDREW
Uhhh not much.
PAUL
Cool, cool, that’s cool. You’re probably wondering why Edison and I are roommates huh?
ANDREW
It crossed my mind for a second, yes.
PAUL
Well, we’re friends now.
Pauls puts his arm around Edison’s shoulder. Edison steps away.
ANDREW
Paul, do you mind if Edison and I talk alone?
PAUL
Oh, not at all man. I’ll just be in the chick den. That’s what I call my room.
Paul leaves and enters his room.
Andrew and Edison stand in silence.
ANDREW
You’re friends with Paul now?
EDISON
I prefer the term frenemies.
ANDREW
Why in the world are you roommates with Paul? He hates you after you broke him and Brittaney up.
EDISON
I thought so too but to be honest, I didn’t know anyone else I could stay with. Surprisingly, he took me in. I think I broke him with the whole Britt stuff. Plus the rent is cheap.
ANDREW
Look Edison, let’s just forget about what happened. We both said some hurtful things. I think it’s best we just move on.
EDISON
No.
ANDREW
What do you mean no?
EDISON
The only way we move on is with an apology.
ANDREW
(Sigh)
Fine. Edison, I’m sorry I called your relationship with Brittaney a fling.
EDISON
Thank you.
ANDREW
Now, will you come back to the apartment now?
EDISON
No.
ANDREW
Seriously? Why?
EDISON
Look, Andrew, things have been different since I moved out. My grades went up from a C minus to a C plus. Also, I’ve had 10 dates with 10 different women. I’m on a streak and can’t afford to lose that. I’m sorry Andrew but... I’m not coming back.
ANDREW
Ok, if that’s what you want.
EDISON
Goodbye Andrew.
INT. APARTMENT - DAY
Megan and her girlfriend Samantha are making out on the couch.
SAMANTHA
Should we go to your room?
MEGAN
You just read my mind.
Megan takes Samantha's hand and the two walk towards Megan’s room. Andrew enters the apartment. Megan and Samantha stop.
MEGAN
I’ll be there in a sec.
SAMANTHA
Don’t be too long. Hey Andrew.
ANDREW
I’m guessing you’re Samantha, heard a lot about you.
Samantha enters Megan’s bedroom. Andrew sits on the couch and Megan joins him.
MEGAN
So, how’d it go?
ANDREW
Well, I apologized and he accepted.
MEGAN
And?
ANDREW
And, he’s not coming back.
MEGAN
Well, at least you two made up.
ANDREW
Yeah. Still though...is he really still my friend?
MEGAN
Give it time.
Andrew nods.
MEGAN
Now, if you will excuse me, there is a sexy woman who I would like to make love to.
ANDREW
Do you think you could... keep it down.
MEGAN
Mmmmmmmmm no.
Megan enters her room. Andrew looks around the empty living room.
ANDREW
It’s gonna be another long year.
