Preliminary Analysis: After already dropping a substantial amount in 2019, the Zoom-based/Covid-proof '72th Emmy Awards' (1.0) came onto the scene in dire fashion. The ABC ceremony ended up seven-tenths below what it managed last year on Fox (1.7) and couldn't even come close to competing with CBS and NBC's football broadcasts. Although it'll likely adjust up a few tenths, it continues to decline at an alarming rate year after year. Leading into 'The Emmys' was a 7pm edition of 'Celebrity Family Feud' (0.7). After two months off the air, 'Feud' returned steady with what it had managed for its last episode in July.
CBS had the 'NFL Overrun' (4.0) and used it to boost '60 Minutes' (1.3), 'Big Brother' (0.9), and 'Love Island' (0.4). 'Brother' fell two-tenths from its last original while 'Love Island' actually gained one. NBC had 'Football Night in America' (2.4) and a sturdy 'Patriots v. Seahawks' game (4.2). Fox performed a bit better than usual with its comedy repeats as some football lead-in juice seeped into the 7pm repeat of 'Last Man Standing' (0.5). The cartoons after it all managed a 0.3 rating. 'The Simpsons', 'Bless the Harts', 'Bob's Burgers', and 'Family Guy' will be back in originals next week. The CW had repeats of 'Fridge Wars' (0.1) and 'Supernatural' (0.1).
Finals Update: On ABC, 'The Emmys' (1.3, +0.3) adjusted up by three-tenths, putting it only four-tenths behind last year's ceremony (1.7). 'Celebrity Family Feud' (0.5, -0.2) adjusted down by two-tenths and hit a new low. CBS's 'NFL Overrun' (5.5, +1.5), '60 Minutes' (1.6, +0.3), 'Big Brother' (1.1, +0.2), and 'Love Island' (0.5, +0.1) all adjusted up. NBC's NFL game (5.2, +1.0) adjusted up by a full point. The 'Last Man Standing' repeat (0.4, -0.1) adjusted down on Fox while 'The Simpsons' repeat (0.4, +0.1) adjusted up.
