1X06 - “THE AWKWARD STAGE OF BEING YOUNG”

FADE IN:
EXT. COFFEE SHOP - EARLY EVENING
A hip coffee shop is sitting at the heart of downtown Hartford, Connecticut.
Terri and Corey are walking towards the shop.
INT. COFFEE SHOP - EARLY EVENING
Terri and Corey sit in their respective places in the coffee shop.
Terri looks up at Corey while placing her stuff on the table.
ON THE COUNTER
Terri walks up to the counter. Corey follows behind.
She orders a french vanilla flavored latte.
Corey orders some tea.
There is buzzing sounds on the counter from the espresso machines.
Terri and Corey return to their places into the coffee table.
TERRI
Say, I didn’t realize you like tea.
COREY
I get that a lot.
They both stare into each other’s eyes.
Corey looks away.
Terri then pauses. Her eyes widen.
TERRI
What’s the matter?
COREY
I just like tea.
Terri then hangs her head down.
TERRI
I’m so sorry. I thought everyone liked coffee.
COREY
Black coffee for me is the best. My stomach cannot take anything else.
TERRI
The basics.
Corey then looks up at Terri.
COREY
Say, there are some board games there including Monopoly. Wanna play?
TERRI
I don’t see why not.
Corey gets the game of Monopoly and places it on the table.
Terri opens the box. She places the board on top of the table.
TERRI
What piece do you like?
COREY
(happily)
I’ll take the battleship. You can have the car.
Corey then takes the game pieces and places it on the game board.
Terri then places the two decks of Monopoly cards on each side of the board. One is chance and one is the community chest.
Corey rolls the dice, and the game begins.
SUPER: THIRTY MINUTES LATER
Corey and Terri get frustrated at each other with their game.
TERRI
Were you ever this competitive with the board game?
COREY
Board games are the worst.
TERRI
I’m sorry if this is getting awkward.
COREY
It’s not awkward at all. I wanted to have a little fun for a change.
(beat)
Board games are one of the best ways to have fun. I’m not in a rush to do everything everyone else does.
Terri shoots Corey a confused look as she takes a sip off her latte.
TERRI
What do you mean?
COREY
It’s that awkward stage of youth. People my age expect me to do things other people do.
Terri nods.
