Abby's: Nobody expected this show to do well ahead of its premiere, considering that it was being stuck at the tail-end of a low-rated comedy block and received little attention from its network. However, Abby's can't even brag about having strong retention, losing two tenths from its Will & Grace lead-in in both weeks that it aired. That's not too horrible, and it's actually better than undeniable bomb AP Bio's retention from Superstore, but it's not enough to give it a legitimate case for renewal. A 0.5 is a 0.5 at the end of the day, and it isn't acceptable for a show that's just two episodes into its run. NBC recently made a habit of renewing at least one midseason comedy each season, no matter how low the ratings are, but with a regime change this time around, I doubt this practice will continue. This show will join Champions and I Feel Bad in the garbage heap as one of the few recent one-and-done NBC comedies, and it will start as a LIKELY CANCELLATION.
Law & Order: SVU: NBC's longest-running drama was renewed for season 21 this since our last update, a renewal that will make it the sole owner of the title for longest-running drama ever. I've had the series marked as a certain renewal all season, but I can rest easy now knowing that SVU is safe from being this year's shock cancellation.
