After weeks of steady yet 'meh' ratings, Magnum P.I. is now in more positive territory. Last week, CBS announced the freshman series will air a new episode following the AFC Championship Game. That is a big vote of confidence for the networks sixth highest rated drama of eleven (fourteen when you include the Friday dramas). Magnum P.I. appears to be a network favorite, so barring any major drops, it will likely return for another season.
The networks third highest rated drama, God Friended Me, had less fortunate news this week, flipping to likely to be cancelled. Without football kicking off the night, the results are at 0.7 levels, which is in line with most of the CBS drama lineup. The series is not owned by the network, and with limited schedule space, God Friended Me finds itself in a tight squeeze.
In non-movement news, certain to be renewed and successful freshmen The Neighborhood and FBI each saw 0.1 upticks this week. For FBI, it was the shows best rating since episode two. Year to year it is running only single digit percentages behind Bull in the timeslot last season. Stalwart NCIS is having a magnificent season, down only 7% year-to-year, the sixth best trend for any scripted series on the broadcast networks this year. And for what its worth, NCIS: Los Angeles is down only 8% yty (8th best) and NCIS: New Orleans is down 11% (10th best). A really great year for the trio means none of them are in danger of cancellation.
