CBS Renew/Cancel Week 9: Bye Murphy Brown

In a fairly slow Thanksgiving week, there was no movement in the chart. We saw more of the same results we have already seen this season, so let's do a quick recap.

God Friended Me continued its shaky freshman season run with a dip to 0.8 this week. There does not seem to be much of an audience for the series, as its DVR results are meh and in weeks without the NFL, there does not seem to be much stability.

Elsewhere on Sunday, NCIS: Los Angeles held most of its God Friended Me lead in and was actually up year to year by 10%. For the season, the veteran drama is now down only 8%. Syndicated lovechild Madam Secretary is the lowest rated drama on CBS, but is really not a priority in the dump off Sunday 10 o'clock timeslot. For the season, Madam Secretary is down 14%.

The seasons biggest surprise, as mentioned many times before, is still The Neighborhood. It finished with a 1.1 yet again on Monday night, tying for third place overall with Dancing with the Stars, The Good Doctor, and Manifest. Not too shabby for the critically maligned comedy. Fellow Monday comedy Happy Together managed to tick up to a rounded 0.9 this week, although its likely not enough for any episodes beyond the initial 13. Filming has reportedly already wrapped on the first season, and barring a miracle, its likely a 13-and-done situation. Magnum P.I. did another 'blah' 0.8, with Bull in repeat mode for the week.

All of the CBS Tuesday lineup was down minimally from the week prior, with NCIS sliding two tenths, and FBI and NCIS: New Orleans down only a tenth. The trio will undoubtedly remain together next season too. Don't mess with what is working!

CBS ended a full night of originals on Wednesday, with SEAL Team and Criminal Minds each up on Thanksgiving Eve. Veteran Criminal Minds was up two tenths from last week, for its best delivery of the season. Not only was it a season high, but Criminal Minds was also down only 10% from the year-ago episode - its best trend of the season. This is likely a one week blip, although we should keep an eye on it over the next few weeks. SEAL Team was up a tenth, with a down Survivor lead in, so a rather positive result for the sophomore drama. Given it is CBS owned, there is little reason to believe it is in danger at this point.

Rounding out the week was a brand new episode of Murphy Brown on Thanksgiving night. Surrounded by repeats, this definitely felt like a burnoff situation. Despite that, Murphy Brown only shed a tenth this week to tie its low. Either way, its still going to be cancelled.
