NBC Renew/Cancel - Week 1: First Predictions

Welcome to week one of the NBC Renew/Cancel Watch for the 2016-17 season! If you didn't know already, my name is Luke Lambright and I will doing the NBC R/C Watch every Sunday. Take a look at my very first predictions down below!

Blindspot (1.4 / 1.3)

This week, Blindspot fell from its season 2 premiere rating of a 1.5 to a 1.3 to lead off NBC's Wednesday night. This rating was actually above the 1.2 rating that The Mysteries of Laura got last season, but I just don't think NBC will want to keep Blindspot around for 2 more seasons after this current one (a season 3 renewal essentially means a renewal for season 4 as well).

The Blacklist (1.3 / 1.3)
The Good Place (2.0 / 1.4) [O]

The Blacklist opened up to a 1.3 rating in its new timeslot, Thursday at 10, which is a solid rating for NBC in that slot. However, The Blacklist is now in its fourth season and most likely getting a little too expensive for NBC to have a high tolerance for, so if its ratings fall even just a little lower we could be seeing the end of NBC's hit of the past.

The Good Place premiered to a very good 2.3 rating on Monday following the season premiere of The Voice. However, on Thursday it fell to a 1.4 rating. This still isn't that terrible for an NBC comedy so as of right now this show's fate could go either way.

This Is Us (2.8 / 2.8)

Chicago Med returned to a 1.4 rating on its new night, Thursday, which is a low for the show. Although this rating is not good by any means, I feel as if any show with the word "Chicago" in its title on NBC has a pretty good chance at renewal. If Chicago Med continues to drop, though, this could very well change.

Superstore led off Thursday night with a 1.5 rating, which is around the average for its first season's ratings. Even though a 1.5 isn't that spectacular, it is by far NBC's most successful comedy in years so it has a very likely shot at renewal as of right now.

This Is Us opened up to an outstanding 2.8 rating on Tuesday, which is definitely enough to put the show in likely renewal area at the moment. This show is going to have to fall A LOT for NBC to even consider canceling it. I know this is only the first week, but its chances are already looking pretty good.
