CW Renew/Cancel: iZombie is Likely to be Renewed...Wait, WHAT?!?

In another preseason prediction post, I decided to include the midseason shows and their predictions. Unfortunately, it seems we have formatting issues in regards to emojis. So I decided to dump the emojis and revert back to what I was doing last season.

The iZombie Conundrum
iZombie was one of two shows I had incorrectly predicted as a certain cancelation last season. Now, it's pushed to midseason with only 13 episodes.

Now, why did I decide to give more favorable chances on it? Normally for a third season show, a show with less than 66 episodes would get canceled after three seasons. However, as we've seen last season with the renewals of Reign and The 100, plus the renewal of FOX's Sleepy Hollow, that rule is becoming more of a suggestion rather than a formula, especially with the rise of the limited series. Don't worry fans, iZombie is a safe bet to return for the 2017-18 season. Let's just hope I'm not wrong again.

What About the Other Returning Midseason Shows?
The other shows do not look likely to return at the moment. The Originals is certain to be canceled at the end of the 2016-17 season. Why, you ask? With the announcement of The Vampire Diaries ending after this season, The Originals is one of two shows (the other one being The 100) going into season 4, is low rated, and has a shortened episode order. It got moved to Fridays, and I suspect that the end is nigh for it.

I think the same argument possibly goes for The 100. It's got a short fourth season, but it's a limited series. Every season so far has less than 22 episodes each. You would think that the motto is to get it to 70 episodes, but I don't think number of episodes matter as much as number of seasons for streaming purposes, and the CW has never been a network to successfully get multiple shows into traditional syndication. In traditional syndication, only Supernatural's deal with TNT has been successful, and the deal still continues today. With that being said, I got The 100 as a likely cancelation.

Reign's got a short fourth season as well, and it's also a likely cancelation, for now. However, its episode order is longer than the other returning midseason shows. This means it may be getting eased into summer. Could the CW cancel more than one or two fourth season shows? Likely, but I'm not positive. One of them is going to be a toss up come midseason, and due to CBS affirmative action, I wouldn't be surprised if Reign holds on for one more year if No Tomorrow completely tanks (unlikely) and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's ratings go even lower on a Friday.

The Case of Riverdale
I'm also not entirely positive on Riverdale's renewal, but I think the Berlanti name would ensure that its a safe bet. Once Riverdale premieres, it's fate will be a little more clear.
