Dancing With the Stars Season 23 Episode 2 Review

It's TV Night on Dancing With the Stars! This is one of my favorite nights of the season.

Jake T. Austin & Jenna Johnson's Cha-Cha

Jake definitely improved over last week. Like the judges pointed out,his timing was off quite a bit. If he can improve his timing, as well as his dancing skills in general, he can start to get higher scores, and hopefully stay for awhile.
My Score: 6

Babyface & Allison Holker's Argentine Tango

Babyface had a great dance again. This week was an improvement over last week. Babyface did a great job with the Argentine Tango, and he captured the essence of the dance.
My Score: 7

Marilu Henner & Derek Hough's Foxtrot

I loved this dance. I think Marilu totally nailed the performance. She was so graceful and elegant and totally lived up to my expectations. And this dance certainly embodied Taxi. This  was my favorite dance of the night. And also, what the heck, judges?
My Score: 8

Laurie Hernandez & Val Chmerkovskiy's Jive

Laurie had another great performance tonight. She was so energetic and looked like she had such a fun time. In my opinion, she's the frontrunner this year, and I think this dance helped prove why I feel that way. She did awesome.
My Score: 8

James Hinchcliffe & Sharna Burgess's Paso Doble

I don't think James did as well this week as he did last week. I think that his schedule was a big problem. He didn't really have that much time this week, and I think it showed. I'm not saying he wasn't good. He was. But not as good as last week.
My Score: 7

Vanilla Ice & Witney Carson's Quickstep

I thought Vanilla Ice improved quite a bit from last week. He looked like he had a lot of fun. And he was really into the lip synching, too. And like Len said, there was much more content than last week. All around, a much better performance.
My Score: 6

Terra Jole & Sasha Farber's Quickstep

I really think Terra did a great job tonight. She had a nice improvement from last week. She had a great week. I'm really proud of her. Her dance was great.
My Score: 8

Calvin Johnson & Lindsay Arnold's Foxtrot

Calvin was pretty good this week. I felt that for once, the judges enjoyed a dance more than I did. To me, his dance wasn't particularly memorable, but still decent. I think he's going to improve in coming week, and I'm excited to see his get better.
My Score: 7

Jana Kramer & Gleb Savchenko's Tango

I thought Jana did a good job, especially for being injured. I'm glad that she felt well enough to dance, because she's a good dancer. If she keeps having solid performances, she'll go far.
My Score: 7

Ryan Lochte & Cheryl Burke's Quickstep

After last week's protests, I was just happy to see that Ryan got on and off the stage without anyone running up to him or booing him. That said, he made a lot of mistakes tonight. I really can't see him sticking around all that long.
My Score: 6

Maureen McCormick & Artem Chigvintsev's Quickstep

I really enjoyed Maureen's dance this week. She clearly was not as nervous, which was her biggest problem last week. Once again, it was great to see Florence Henderson cheering on her TV daughter. I loved that she danced to the Brady Bunch theme song. But was there really any other option?
My Score: 7

Rick Perry & Emma Slater's Quickstep

Oh boy. Rick is obviously not a very skilled dancer. But I'll tell you what, he's fun to watch. It looked like he had fun. It was a little better than last week. That's where my praise has to end. The quickstep was, well, bad. I'm glad he came to dance, because I've had fun watching him. Unfortunately, I think his dancing time is over.
My Score: 5

Amber Rose & Maks Chmerkovskiy's Viennese Waltz

I thought Amber did a better job than last week, but I think that she still struggled bit. In my opinion, she's behind a lot of the cast in terms of dancing skill, but she can improve. I think she's got a few weeks to improve.
My Score: 6

_______________________
Tonight was the results show, and they got off to a surprising start, with Rick Perry being declared safe. The Bottom 4 were ultimately Maureen, Jake, Amber, and Ryan. Just Jake and Ryan were left standing, and it became pretty clear that Jake was dunzo. Jake is eliminated. I was quite surprised that Rick wasn't even in Jeopardy.  I think that Jake deserved to go early, but not before Rick. However, out of the Bottom 4, he deserved to go home.

Do you guys think the right person went home? Tell me in the comments!
