FADE IN:

EXT. MANHATTAN SKYLINE - DAY

An urban area is situated in Staten Island in the middle of New York City.

EXT. WOMEN’S HEALTH MEDICAL BUILDING - DAY

A medical building is situated on the corner of 11th Street and downtown.

Pedestrians are walking along the sidewalk, Leah and Ash included.

INT. WAITING ROOM - DAY

Leah and Ash enter into the waiting room.

They go through the check in process.

Then, not even a minute later, they sit in the waiting room.

Ash turns towards Leah.

Leah turns towards Ash, with a hint of nervousness illustrated through her face.

LEAH
Of course, I’m nervous.

Ash nods. He then takes her hand, in a concerted effort to soothe her.

A nurse calls her name, and then they get up.

INT. EXAMINATION ROOM - DAY

Leah takes a deep breath as two nurses (NURSE #1, NURSE #2) prepare the ultrasound.

She then gets worried.

The two nurses look at each other, with fear written on their faces.

NURSE #2 turns to look at Leah.

Leah sighs.

NURSE #2
I don’t hear a heartbeat, Mrs. Chambers.

Leah’s eyes widen in confusion.

She turns to look at Ash, whose head hangs low.

The doctor shows up to the scene.

Ash then turns to look at her.

The doctor has a solemn look on her face.

DOCTOR
Leah, I’m really sorry to tell you this. But you lost your baby.

A tear falls from Leah’s eye.

Leah attempts to wipe it.

LEAH
How is this possible?

DOCTOR
Considering it was early on, it happens a lot. Miscarriage usually happens because there are many factors that play a role. Looking at your charts, you have PCOS as a major factor.

LEAH
I know this. But this was my first pregnancy. I don’t know if there’s anything I did to cause it.

DOCTOR
That happens a lot. This is not your fault.

Ash races towards Leah’s side as tears stream down her face.

He then nudges closer to her.

ASH
Honey, we’re going to get through this. It’s going to take a while.

The doctor nods and then nudges closer to the examination table.

DOCTOR
This is another thing I would like to discuss. I would advise against trying to get pregnant again so soon, until you are emotionally ready. For now, I’m going to prescribe some medication to get rid of the loss quickly and see where it goes.

Leah freezes up in sadness as the doctor writes on her clipboard.
