Less than a week after its time slot debut, the Kathy Bates-led legal drama Matlock, loosely inspired by the Andy Griffith drama that ran from 1986 to 1995, has already been renewed for a second season. This makes it the first freshman renewal of the season, aside from Universal Basic Guys, which was renewed before the season began. It’s also the first renewal since the start of the 2024-25 season. The show has performed well so far for CBS, with a 0.44 in the demo for a one-off Sunday airing last month and a 0.36 rating in the demo for its time slot debut last week. Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter, Leah Lewis and David Del Rio star alongside Bates, with the series intended to be the Oscar and Emmy winner's final project of her acting career.
