Friday TV Ratings 9/8/23: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Modest in CBS Preview, WWE SmackDown Drops but Remains in First (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Paramount+ original 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' (0.18/0.15) made its broadcast debut on CBS in modest fashion. This is perhaps a touch better than the premieres of recent "streaming transplants" like 'Baking It' (0.13) and 'Ms. Marvel' (0.11), but the difference is not meaningful enough to frame 'Trek' as some sort of success, especially since those two aired on a Saturday. A rerun of '48 Hours' (0.12) followed the 'Trek' launch. 'WWE Smackdown' (0.53, -0.12) dealt with another harsh blow on Fox, but it remained well above the rest. NBC had reruns of 'America's Got Talent' (0.22) and 'Dateline' (0.19). ABC went with encores of 'Will Trent' (0.15) and '20/20' (0.28). '20/20' was nearly a tenth above 'Dateline' this time around, a stark contrast to their usual dynamic. The CW aired 2004 film 'Friday Night Lights' (0.05) and got a better rating out of it than the week-ago 'Family Law' finale.

Finals Update: All shows held their preliminary rounded ratings.
