Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge: NBC's latest reality show is not off to too hot of a start. A 0.32 average isn't too bad for a summer show in a vacuum, but it's less than half of its America's Got Talent lead-in, and it's already weaker than Dancing With Myself, last year's post-AGT Tuesday program which was canceled after a single season. While summer isn't known as a time where networks have terribly high expectations for their programming, the coveted post-AGT slot is a noted exception. NBC is picky when it comes to this time slot, as they know how lucrative the AGT lead-in is (it is, after all, one of the highest-rated summer shows, and one of NBC's highest-rated shows). While not an outright bomb, Hot Wheels' linear performance thus far has not shown much promise, especially as it dropped in week two as AGT saw a week two bounce. The only thing that its working in its favor so far is that NBC recently boasted about its delayed performance for its premiere episode, stating the the series was their #3 series premiere on Peacock, after Quantum Leap and Night Court. Both of those shows received renewals, with Quantum Leap surviving on similar ratings to the ones Hot Wheels has drawn thus far, leaving the door open for a renewal here. It LEANS CANCELLATION but a continued strong streaming performance can push it over the edge for renewal.

Stars on Mars: Despite a decent promo push from Fox and a big-name host in William Shatner, the launch of Stars on Mars was no otherworldly event for Fox, drawing just a 0.24. That's in-line with Beat Shazam, Don't Forget About the Lyrics and cRime Scene Kitchen, and a tick belo3w Food Stars. With this looking to be the average rating for Fox's summer programming, well... Fox, we have a problem. Getting a 0.24 on premiere night certainly does not suggest any sort of a long-term future for this show, though Fox has been renewed shows with extremely low ratings recently, such as Welcome to Flatch, Accused and Alert - all of which rated similarly or below that 0.24. This show has all the feelings of a classic one-and-done Fox summer reality show, and given that its low ratings were for a series launch, it's likely going to drop enough to be a clear weak link one Fox's schedule. Maybe it'll improve enough to get a renewal, or maybe Fox will renew it just for fun like they seem to have done with some other shows, but I wouldn't bet on it yet. It LEANS CANCELLATION because it's hard to be too sure about Fox canceling anything these days.
