LEGO Masters: This was one of the earliest premieres of the summer season, returning on the first day of June. Despite that, I've basically ignored it all season. Its 0.4 premiere was, to put it lightly, not great, but it ended up adjusted up in the final ratings and then held steady at 0.5 all season, which is very impressive. Even in its weakened form, America's Got Talent is big competition for any show, and LEGO Masters has navigated it well. Its year-to-year trend leaves much to be desired, but it's hard to imagine a show getting stable 0.5s being canceled in the summer. It's finally being upgraded to a LIKELY RENEWAL.
The Ultimate Surfer: This week, ABC premiered their newest reality show, The Ultimate Surfer. Airing behind Bachelor in Paradise, the show got off to a thud with a 0.34 behind Paradise's 1.04 on Monday. It held steady on Tuesday, even as Paradise shed two tenths, which is just about the only positive for this show. This is not the first show and won't be the last to premiere late in the summer season on ABC to little interest and get quickly forgotten. It would be a true shock to see ABC bring this one back when they surely do not need it. It's a LIKELY CANCELLATION.
Capital One College Bowl: When it first premiered, College Bowl looked like it could be a decent performer for NBC. Sure, the 0.5 start wasn't anything huge, but it was fine. In the weeks after the premiere, the show dropped, even as America's Got Talent was stable. For a show that was already borderline to start with, dipping below the 0.40 mark be week two was not encouraging. Fellow freshman reality series Family Game Fight isn't lighting the world on fire either, but it looks at least a mild amount stronger than College Bowl. While they don't really need either, I think that's the one that would be favored for an additional pickup. College Bowl can easily be cut loose to open up a relatively-cushy slot. It LEANS CANCELLATION.
