A pair of veteran crime dramas will be returning to ABC next season. The network has renewed The Rookie and Will Trent for a ninth and fifth season, respectively. Both series remain respectable performers for ABC, with The Rookie being a particular highlight in its delayed performance. The series were once Tuesday night companions, though The Rookie has since moved to Monday nights, splitting up the pair of lighthearted crime procedurals that had aired on Tuesday nights (albeit often an hour apart) since Will Trent's debut. The dramas are the latest early renewal for ABC, which had previously renewed fellow Tuesday drama High Potential, their 9-1-1 dramas, Grey's Anatomy, and comedy Abbott Elementary. The pickup leaves Shifting Gears and freshmen RJ Decker and Scrubs as the only ABC scripted series left on the bubble. The renewal of The Rookie ties it for the third-longest-running drama series in ABC history, with ongoing drama Grey's Anatomy one of the two shows still ahead of it. The Rookie stars Nathan Fillion, whose former ABC drama Castle ran for eight seasons, while Will Trent stars Ramon Rodriguez. both series are correct predictions for The TV Ratings Guide.
