In a surprising midseason announcement, CBS has canceled both of their FBI spinoffs. FBI: International is currently in its fourth season and will not return on CBS for a fifth. FBI: Most Wanted is in its sixth season, and will not return to CBS for a seventh season.
FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted both failed from an outside studio, NBCUniversal. While International was only a short final season away from the 88 episode count typically needed to secure a syndication deal, FBI: Most Wanted had more than enough episodes and had not secured such a deal. Both shows received single-season renewals last spring, when FBI scored a three-season renewal. There is no word yet on if either spinoff will be shopped to a potential buyer, the most likely of which would presumably be NBC. A fifth season of FBI: International was reportedly in pre-production, which will obviously be scrapped sans the series being saved.
FBI: International is currently averaging a 0.32 Adults 18-49 demo rating with 4.8 million viewers, while FBI: Most Wanted is averaging a 0.31 demo rating and 4.3 million viewers. Both shows rate around the median demo rating for CBS, with FBI: Most Wanted being CBS’s highest-rated 10 pm series in the demo.
FBI: Most Wanted was predicted to be canceled by The TV Ratings Guide, while FBI: International was predicted to be renewed. This brings our record this season to 12 correct predictions and 1 incorrect prediction. CBS has few decisions left to make regarding which shows to renew or cancel. Shows with outstanding fates include Monday multi-cams The Neighborhood and Poppa’s House, new drama Watson, veteran Friday drama S.W.A.T., and fellow NBCUniversal drama The Equalizer.
