TBS is about to be estranged from its American Dad. After ten years on the cable network, the Seth MacFarlane animated sitcom has been canceled, as TBS continues to move away from original scripted program, and away from its previous brand identity. American Dad's run is not necessarily over yet, as the series is being shopped to other networks, and is owned by Disney, which has several cable and streaming networks of its own. The series began as a Fox cartoon, airing eleven seasons on the network before being canceled and saved by TBS. The show was a ratings success for TBS, and enjoyed a lengthy run, before its future on the network was jeopardized by a change in programming strategy, with its most recent renewal coming before Warner Bros. merged with Discovery. It was the last remaining scripted series on the network. Ratings for American Dad were unspectacular this season, with a 0.07 average - down 30% from its previous season, though not all that far off from the ratings of some of Fox's ongoing lower-rated animated sitcoms. Wendy Schaal, Scott Grimes, Rachael MacFarlane, Dee Bradley Baker, Jeff Fischer and Patrick Stewart also star in the series. Its final episode on TBS will air March 24. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.
Update: American Dad! is expected to return to its original home, Fox, for its next season, hours after the confirmation of its TBS cancellation. A deal for the move is being finalized now, and is expected to keep the show on Fox for several seasons.
