INT. BREAK ROOM - DAY
LEAH is making coffee in the break room. KASEY gets her notepad and pen ready.
Leah then turns to Kasey.
LEAH
(smiling)
Need anything?
KASEY
I'm pregnant, remember?
(smirking)
I have to limit my caffeine intake.
LEAH
Okay. Have it your way.
ASH then enters the room. He has a stack of papers on hand.
ASH
Ladies, could you look through these reports?
KASEY
I will. Let me look over these for a moment.
Ash hands Kasey the stack of papers. She looks through them carefully.
Leah turns to Ash.
LEAH
I'm glad you're here.
ASH
Me too.
LEAH
This will be a long day at the office.
Immediately after, CHARLIE enters the scene. Sporting a new look at the office, with a leather jacket and pants, she carries her purse over to the table in the break room.
CHARLIE
(smiling)
Missed me yet?
ASH
Charlie!
(in shock)
I didn't think you would be back so soon.
CHARLIE
It's been three days. I'm okay now.
LEAH
(relieved)
I'm glad you are doing well. Ready to get back to work?
CHARLIE
Of course.
KASEY
(timidly)
I hope you don’t go off the deep end again after this.
Ash then motions them into the conference room.
CUT TO:
INT. CONFERENCE ROOM - CONTINUOUS
JESSE and MATT gather together in the conference room. Jesse has a folder of papers in hand. Matt is checking his phone.
Kasey, Leah, Charlie, and Ash enter the scene. The entire gang sits at the meeting table in the conference room.
There are photos scattered around the table as the gang looks around.
ASH
(pointing to a photo)
These photos are an eye-opener.
JESSE
You never know what other keepsakes we can find during our time at headquarters.
Ash points to a picture of himself presenting for the first time.
ASH
These were years ago. This network was starting out back then.
JESSE
(puzzled)
Starting out?
ASH
We were a brand new network when I first took on the position as network president.
(smiles)
Those were the good old days. But they will be even better once the new season starts.
KASEY
Oh don't let me forget that already.
LEAH
New season?
JESSE
We're into planning for it ever since Psych Med came crashing at our network.
LEAH
That was one of our worst times.
ASH
(sternly)
It is definitely something I would like to forget while we are preparing for this upcoming season.
Ash turns to Charlie, and then returns to look at the rest of the gang. Jesse's hands clench in nervous anticipation, Kasey clutches her belly, and Leah is jotting down notes on her notepad.
Charlie takes a breath and stands up.
CHARLIE
As your new co-president, one thing is for sure.
(smiling)
We are taking the network to the next level and we are rebranding.
ASH
In addition, we are picking shows that align with a new vision for the network.
Jesse's eyes widen. Kasey looks up.
Leah stops writing in her note pad.
LEAH
(puzzled)
What do you mean, new vision?
ASH
Well, honey, to create a new vision, there is a will and a way to do things differently than before. That includes finding new shows on our lineup.
LEAH
Does that mean a lot of shows will get canceled from the previous season?
ASH
Yes. Except that we already have renewed The President's Daughter as well as Marietta and Real Hollywood. These three shows will continue airing for the new season.
(frowns)
Jesse, I usually send Leah or Kasey to do this, but I know you can handle this. Could you send a cancelation notice to Life with Jess and Glamanour Heights?
JESSE
Why Glamanour Heights, you ask?
LEAH
Allow me to elaborate. The show straight up collapsed in the second season and there are allegations against showrunners.
JESSE
(saddened)
Oh. That is unfortunate, given that we had an unfortunate moment happen in network headquarters. I have those shows written down right now and I will go back to my office as soon as this meeting adjourns.
CHARLIE
(solemnly)
This is shocking to us. Here's hoping we will find no nudest protest due to a cancelation like we had last season.
Matt's eyes widen as he hears Charlie's remarks. He puts down his notepad and turns towards her.
MATT
(in shock)
Nudest protest? This is a first.
CHARLIE
I encountered the cast and crew of Mean Girls protesting at headquarters last season when I was a gossip columnist.
MATT
Interesting.
Matt returns to writing.
