2x08 - "Not Your Average Conference Call"

INT. CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY
Last time on Network, ASH takes MATT, JESSE, KASEY, LEAH, and CHARLIE on memory lane.
On this episode, Ash gathers the gang together for upfront season.
Matt is writing in his notepad.
Kasey is furiously making notes in her notepad.
Jesse puts files of reports on the table.
Leah passes out what appears to be an agenda.
ASH
(sternly)
It is definitely a long day. Now, let's get started.
Ash then pauses and crosses his arms.
ASH (CONT'D)
Leah, what are the statuses with our current shows?
Leah then stands up and smiles.
LEAH
The good news, The President's Daughter is the number one show on the network. At a close second is Marietta and tied for third are The Choice and Real Hollywood.
ASH
(with a smile)
That is especially good news.
Ash uncrosses his arms.
ASH (CONT'D)
Now, who can tell me the bad news?
Jesse then gets up.
JESSE
Now who would have thought that Glamanour Heights would have straight up collapsed this season?
LEAH
Now, we need to debate on whether we should give it a final season to wrap things up.
ASH
Last time I talked to the cast and crew of Glamanour Heights, they are not in the point of wrapping things up for the second season.
JESSE
What do you mean?
ASH
A third season generally leads to a fourth season.
LEAH
We might as well pull a Netflix and straight up Nikita-ing it.
Kasey interrupts as her eyes widen.
KASEY
That is a terrible idea. Did the writers have an episode that would serve as a series finale?
ASH
Last time I checked, the final episode could work. However, the economics of syndication can be a benefit in the long-run.
KASEY
With poor ratings, syndication would not work.
Matt then looks up.
MATT
She's right. It could tank a network that could carry it in off-network syndication. Remember that cop show?
JESSE
You mean the one that makes a competing network millions in syndication? That is entirely different. Procedurals bring in more money entirely.
KASEY
(timidly)
And Glamanour Heights is serialized.
LEAH
It fares better on streaming platforms if you look at its streaming numbers.
CHARLIE enters the scene.
Leah and Kasey look ahead with their jaws open.
Jesse squirms.
Charlie then sits down.
ASH
Late to the party, Charlie?
CHARLIE
What party? I just got reports to give out, especially with Glamanour Heights.
JESSE
That is a show we are discussing currently at the moment, Charlie.
CHARLIE
Excellent. I got word that the creator is leveraging his assets carefully.
ASH
Negotiation tactics.
Charlie crosses her arms.
CHARLIE
(sternly)
How the hell do we explain that cliffhangers are a terrible idea for a show that was low rated towards the end of the season?
JESSE
Canceling it. Plenty of networks have done it.
LEAH
We just established that they are not even close to wrapping it up.
CHARLIE
If I were the cast and crew, I would be extra careful not to pull a Mean Girls of last season.
JESSE
(embarrassed)
Oh no, not that nudest protest. Leave that s*** in 2018.
CHARLIE
Well, it's 2019 now, and who knows what the people will come up with this time?
KASEY
Can't we just give them what they want and call it a day?
CHARLIE
I don't think that is such a good idea.
Kasey pauses. She looks at Charlie, with a surprised look on her face.
KASEY
What do you mean?
CHARLIE
We have some new ideas on the table. We have new shows Paradise, The Benchwarmers, The Bullpen, Cardinal Heights, Our House, and Plan A.
ASH
Wow. Six new pilots. What a record after we ordered a record low of two shows last season.
CHARLIE
Exactly. And all are going to series.
ASH
Well, Real Hollywood, Marietta, and The President's Daughter are just three of the scripted shows that are coming back.
CHARLIE
What about Life with Jess?
ASH
Coming back too. I am sending Jesse over to make the press release.
CHARLIE
Excellent. We are rebranding so we are adding another comedy night on Fridays.
JESSE
Doesn't that effectively cut out an hour of Headlines?
CHARLIE
Well. That could work.
Kasey and Leah face each other.
Matt's eyes widen in surprise.
Ash nods his head.
FADE OUT
