Below are the Fox preseason predictions for the upcoming 2024-25 television season. The scripted offerings that will be returning or debuting in fall 2024 will be covered.
9-1-1: Lone Star: 9-1-1: Lone Star is the only scripted series left on the Fox network that can realistically compete with the top performers on the big 3 networks (ABC, CBS, NBC). In early 2023, the series ranked third in terms of Nielsen ratings, only behind a football-boosted Simpsons and parent program 9-1-1. But, despite all that is going for it, Lone Star begins as a Likely Cancellation. In a now-deleted social media post, cast member Robyn Lively said she was excited to be a part of the "final season" of the series. Another cast member, Sierra McClain, recently left the long-running drama. Considering that Fox canceled the original 9-1-1 despite its massive Nielsen ratings, it is clear that Lone Star is not safe just because it posts respectable ratings, especially since its numbers are a notch below 9-1-1. Fox was unwilling to keep the original 9-1-1 around due to the high costs that came with it, and it is likely that history will repeat itself with this spinoff series. Expect season five of 9-1-1: Lone Star to be its last.
Accused: Anthology series Accused was a textbook flameout in season one, going from a solid 0.45 in its time slot premiere all the way down to a meager 0.18 by episode 13. Despite that, the series is a Likely Renewal. Low ratings did not stop The Cleaning Lady or Alert from securing renewals, and this one may benefit from airing in the 8 p.m. time slot, an hour earlier than before. Additionally, the anthology format means that the series could potentially grow an audience without viewers needing additional context. This gives the program a leg up over serialized dramas. Though Accused is by no means a lock, it will probably live on to see a third season.
Bob's Burgers: Bob's Burgers was largely absent in spring 2024 but will return to its regular 9 p.m. time slot in the fall. This long-running animated sitcom is a Certain Renewal. Bob's is one of the strongest animated offerings that Fox has and is being prioritized over Family Guy, as the latter is nowhere to be found on the fall schedule. It will definitely score a season 16 renewal in the near future.
Krapopolis: Krapopolis will be starting its second season in fall 2024, now airing at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday nights instead of 8:30. Being an extra hour away from the football lead-in will likely do a number on the show's overall average, but the series is already Renewed through the 2025-26 television season, so it will be sticking around for at least another season after this one.
Murder in a Small Town: Murder in a Small Town is a co-production with Canadian network Global and will be premiering on the Fox network this September. Having Accused as a lead-in probably won't help its case, but Fox is generous when it comes to handing out renewals to first-year dramas. It begins as a Likely Renewal.
Rescue: Hi-Surf: Lifeguard drama Rescue: Hi-Surf appears to be similar in tone to its 9-1-1: Lone Star lead-in, so it should have no trouble in the retention department. This seems positioned to become a decent performer for the Fox network. Another Likely Renewal.
The Simpsons: As long as football is around, The Simpsons will be around. Certain Renewal.
Universal Basic Guys: Though it has not aired a single episode, Universal Basic Guys has already been Renewed for a second season. This is a common practice for the Fox network, as they have been adamant about wanting to build up their animation brand. Airing right after The Simpsons means Basic Guys will be getting the best slot in the house, so this cartoon will have a Nielsen ratings average with a significant amount of football inflation.
