Shifting Gears Ordered to Series by ABC, Forgive & Forget Passed Over

ABC has added a new comedy to their lineup, handing a series order to pilot Shifting Gears. The multi-camera comedy series, which will see Last Man Standing and Home Improvement star Tim Allen returning to the network, centers on a widowed car restoration shop owner who reconnects with his estranged daughter and her teenage children after they move in with him. Kat Dennings will co-star in the series, which will also feature Daryl "Chill" Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins and Barrett Margolis. Though the pilot was ordered to series, original writers and EPs Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully have exited the series and will be replaced as show runners, and actor Froy Gutierrez will also depart, with his role being recast. Shifting Gears is one of just three comedies confirmed for next season on ABC, joining Abbott Elementary and the extremely limited final season of The Conners.

ABC has also decided against an order for comedy pilot Forgive & Forget, starring Ty Burrell as a man suffering from memory loss.
