Claim to Fame: Last week, ABC moved Claim to Fame from its initial second season time slot at 8 PM to the dreaded post-Bachelorette time slot it aired in last season. As a result, for the second time this season, the show dropped from a new series high to a new series low within the span of a single week. Claim to Fame was a nice summer success story, the rare show to show year-to-year growth in an increasingly-hostile ratings environment. Yet, with one scheduling change, ABC killed any momentum it had, and may have entirely killed one of the most promising summer entries they've had in years. While this move did result in The Bachelorette having its highest-rated episode of the season (and its best year-to-year trend), it still resulted in an overall weakened Monday night lineup in total. The reason for the time slot shakeup truly does appear to have been an attempt at saving the ratings of what's been a disastrous season of The Bachelorette, and not necessarily due to ABC being dissatisfied with what Claim to Fame did in the time slot. However, it does expose that, though they own the show, ABC is willing to throw this show under the bus at the expense of another (one they do not even own), and it therefore feels very expendable to them. With an extremely middling start in the ratings for its 10 PM return, things are looking grim for Claim to Fame. Maybe this is enough for ABC to give it another go-ahead - it's not like its first season was a huge ratings bonanza either - but I'd bet against it now. What once was a very promising show now LEANS CANCELLATION.

Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge: Also on the decline this week is Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge. While Barbie has been lighting up the box office, this toy-themed screen adaptation isn't looking hot whatsoever with dreadful 43% retention of America's Got Talent. Despite having the best lead-in any network can offer in the summer, recent Hot Wheels episodes have come in at just 0.21, below NBC's only other summer newbie, LA Fire & Rescue, despite that show airing on its own. Last week's 0.21 wasn't quite as pitiful as the week before, as it came after a 0.42 for an AGT clip show - its best retention since its premiere - but it's still embarrassing to only hold onto half of a clip show. Even though NBC has given this show a mild sign of support by regularly-scheduled repeats of it on Fridays, I can't for the life of me imagine why they would want it to return for a second season. Almost any show they could throw in that slot would at least match what it's been doing, and most would do better. It's a LIKELY CANCELLATION.
