Shark Week 2025: Complete Ratings for Every Discovery Channel Special

The annual summer tradition has returned, as Discovery Channel has brought back its week-long celebration of sharks for a 37th year, having first begun in 1988 and continued every year since. Ratings have been on the lower side in recent years, with the 2024 edition clocking in at a 0.15 average - about 40% lower than 2023. With roughly half of the week's ratings in so far, Shark Week 2025 is down over 30%. It has repeatedly matched its all-time 18-49 demo low of 0.07 this year, but has thus far avoided matching its all-time viewership low set in 2024 (0.29 million). This page will be updated as the ratings come in for the rest of the week, and you can see full ratings for all of the specials in the chart below!

Wednesday TV Ratings 7/23/25: Match Game and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Premiere Solidly, South Park and Digman! Return Up from Finales, Big Brother Rises [+ Analysis]

Game show staple Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (0.38) had a very successful return on ABC, down just 14% from last summer's premiere (0.44) in the Adults 18-49 demographic. At nine, Match Game (0.37) held onto nearly all of its Millionaire lead-in for its first original in nearly four years, with new host Martin Short taking over for Alec Baldwin. Ultimately, this rating was actually higher than the last episode from the Baldwin era (0.29). But despite ABC's best efforts, it was CBS mainstay Big Brother (0.63, +0.03) that topped the night in the key demo. NBC aired repeats of Chicago Fire (0.17), Chicago Med (0.17), and Chicago PD (0.19). MasterChef (0.22, -0.04) slipped on Fox. Family Law (0.01) completely bombed in its CW return. Key: (P) = premiere. (R) = repeat.

NBC's American Ninja Warrior (0.26, +0.02) was in the same boat, up from last week but below sitcom reruns in the key demo. Stumble Ordered to Series by NBC

NBC is ready to cheer on its newest comedy. The network has ordered its second new comedy series for the 2025-26 season, cheerleading sitcom Stumble The project was ordered to pilot several months ago, and was seen as a possible option to air in one of two yet-to-be-announced vacant slots on NBC's fall schedule. Even with this pickup, NBC has not set any plans in space for those two half-hour slots. We do know, however, that Stumble will air somewhere on NBC's schedule next season. Stumble focuses on a disgraced cheerleading coach who once was known as the greatest coach in junior college cheer history, who now takes on a job coaching an underdog team in the hopes of winning her record-breaking fifteenth championship. Jenn Lyon will star in the series alongside Taran Killam, Ryan Pinkston, Jarrett Austin Brown, Anissa Borrego, Arianna Davis, Taylor Dunbar and Georgie Murphy. Kristin Chenoweth will have a recurring role in the series.

Earlier in the night, ABC's WNBA Countdown (0.18) lost to MLB on Fox (0.30). NBC's repeats of The Wall (0.12) and Dateline (0.16) easily outpaced CBS's encores of The Equalizer (0.07) and 48 Hours (0.06/0.06). The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Canceled by CBS, Will End in May 2026

There's about to be even less talking in late night. CBS has opted to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert after its upcoming eleventh season, stating financial reasons as first-run ratings continue to plunge. Despite declining ratings for late night talk shows, The Late Show has been the #1 talk show in its hour for the last several years. It's the second long-running late night program to end recently on CBS, after The Late Last Show two years ago. That show's replacement, After Midnight, also ended recently, putting into question whether CBS will continue original programming in late night at all. After Midnight is being replaced by Byron Allen's Comics Unleashed, which will produce "some" new episodes for its CBS run. In his statement announcing the cancellation, Colbert stated that is not being replaced as host, and that The Late Show is coming to an end entirely. Colbert's iteration of The Late Show will have run for eleven years by its end in May. The franchise first began in 1993, hosted by the legendary David Letterman, who hosted for twenty-two years.
