The Conners Renewed for 13-Episode Season 2

In a completely unsurprising move, ABC has renewed "freshman" comedy series The Conners. The series, a "spin-off" to the iconic series Roseanne, has had a bit of a strange life. The show came to life following the cancellation of the Roseanne revival due to racist tweets by star Roseanne Barr. It features the entire cast of the Roseanne revival (aside from Barr), including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson. While the series did not rate on the level of the Roseanne revival, it still is easily ABC's #1 comedy with a 1.6 average, ranking multiple tenths ahead of #2 and #3 series Modern Family and The Goldbergs, the Wednesday lineup's anchors, and is the only part of the poorly-rated Tuesday lineup that actually works for the network. Its replacement series, American Housewife (itself the star of the current Tuesday lineup), has rated well behind the Conners. Its highest rating in the slot is well behind even the lowest point of The Conners. This was a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide and our ABC Renew/Cancel column.
