1981-82 Soap Ratings

Written by Bridger Cunningham

The beginning of the season held to the same configuration, but CBS lost faith in their oldest franchise and opted not to renew Search for Tomorrow.  Given Edge of Night experienced moderate success when it moved from CBS to ABC in 1975, NBC picked up the series.

March 26, 1982 debuted new soap Capitol, with CBS taking a point hit from SFT.  NBC debuted SFT at 12:30 (It's old timeslot before being bumped for expansions), cutting SFT's audience in half.  To make room, The Doctors was moved to 12:00 in an attempt to reclaim SFT's former late afternoon success in the 60's and 70's.

GH and Doctors both debuted on April 1, 1963 and ironically became bookends on the Nielsen best and worst of the season.  ABC continued its success piggybacking on the Luke and Laura success.  EDGE lost ground, while RH hit its series high this season, as well as AMC.  CBS continued to repair its middling lineup, attempting to bolster Capitol between its two strongest players.  And NBC experienced anemia to severe degrees.
