CBS shook up their lineup in an effort to not only purge 15-minute serials, but also help the ailing Secret Storm deflect ABC's Dark Shadows' eclipsing ratings. That meant GL had to locate to 2:30, falling behind NBC's growing DOCTORS. Come December 30, NBC attempted to expand their lineup with Hidden Faces, which bombed scheduled against 1st Place ATWT and ending 6 months later.
Scheduling changes reflected in the ratings. SFT benefited from GL's remaining 15 minutes and gained nearly a point, while GL lost 1.1 points and took 2nd to NBC's Doctors. The Secret Storm faced stiff competition from NBC's climbing AW, and Dark Shadows hit its peak season without competition.
