1965-66 Soap Ratings

Written by Bridger Cunningham

New soaps turned up everywhere in 1965, much like reality TV did in the 2000's.  NBC decided to experiment with late AM soaps free of competition, only to unload both franchises my the season's end.  ABC decided to expand into the 2:00 territory opposite NBC with The Nurses, though NBC unloaded that slot's Moment of Truth with current soap DAYS.  A Flame in the Wind was rebranded A Time for Us and still failed to find an audience.  And ABC also attempted teen soap Never Too Young at 4:00, only to unload it like the other failures of the season.

Soap franchises exhibited unilateral declines.  Most CBS showings lost between 0.3-1.2 points, though all retained the top 6 positions of the same rank from the last season.  GH lost seven-tenths, AW gained one, the Doctors nearly lost a point, and Moment of Truth lost seven-tenths, ultimately losing its space to better-rated DAYS.  YM only gained three tenths and was canned, while the remains of the schedule housed newer soaps of weaker value.
