1967-68 Soap Ratings

Written by Bridger Cunningham

Only two new soaps traversed the schedule, as CBS launched newbie LIAMSP opposite NBC's developing DAYS.  Later in the summer of 1968, ABC ignited controversy by launching One Life to Live, retitled from Between Heaven and Hell.

NBC's fast-rising 90-minute soap block became problematic for once-dominant CBS.  AW rose from 7th to 2nd thanks to a 1.2 point spike despite ABC competitor GH gaining 1.8.  NBC's Doctors sported impressive gains as well, spiking 2.1 points without direct soap competition.  Elsewhere, ABC's DS gained an impressive 3 points, taking a vampire bite out of CBS' Secret Storm and prompting the network to move the deflated soap the next season.
