INT. POLICE INTERROGATION ROOM – NIGHT
A sterile, cold room. Julian Carter sits across from Detective Ramirez. His posture is straight, his face unreadable.
A tape recorder clicks on.
DETECTIVE RAMIREZ
Let’s start simple. Where were you when Sophia Caldwell died?
Julian doesn’t blink.
JULIAN
You already know where I was.
Ramirez leans in.
DETECTIVE RAMIREZ
Yeah. But I wanna hear you say it.
FLASHBACK – THE NIGHT OF THE MURDER.
EXT. HOTEL BALCONY – NIGHT (BEFORE THE MURDER)
Julian and Sophia.
SOPHIA
I’m done playing games.
JULIAN
Then tell me the truth.
Sophia reaches into her purse. Julian tenses.
But before she can pull anything out—
A crash from inside the ballroom. A scream.
Sophia turns sharply.
Julian follows her inside.
INT. HOTEL BALLROOM – NIGHT
Sophia moves quickly, scanning the chaos. Something has shaken her.
She pulls out her phone—typing something—but before she can hit send—
A HAND GRABS HER WRIST.
Her eyes widen.
SOPHIA
You—?
A BLUR OF MOVEMENT.
A STRUGGLE.
And then—SHE FALLS.
BACK TO INTERROGATION ROOM
DETECTIVE RAMIREZ
So that’s your story?
Julian exhales, shaking his head.
JULIAN
It’s not a story. It’s the truth.
A long pause.
Then, Ramirez reaches into a folder. Pulls out a single photo.
Slides it across the table.
Julian looks down at it.
His face goes blank.
It’s SECURITY FOOTAGE.
A figure following Sophia onto the balcony.
Not Julian.
AVA.
INT. PRESTIGIOUS CONSULTING FIRM – DAY (HOURS BEFORE THE MURDER – FLASHBACK)
Ava in her office, reading a text from Sophia.
"Meet me before the party. We need to talk."
Ava’s jaw tightens.
She picks up a folder from her desk. The one she stole from Sophia’s office weeks ago.
Inside? Something big.
Something that could ruin everything.
INT. HOTEL – PRIVATE LOUNGE – NIGHT (FLASHBACK – BEFORE THE MURDER)
Ava and Sophia.
Tension thick between them.
SOPHIA
Did you really think I wouldn’t find out?
Ava’s grip on her drink tightens.
AVA
I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Sophia laughs. Cold.
SOPHIA
Come on, Ava. We both know you’re too smart for that.
Ava looks at her. Waiting.
Sophia leans in, voice lower.
SOPHIA
What’s it gonna be? You fix this. Or I will.
Ava’s mask slips.
She exhales, barely a whisper—
AVA
I can’t let you do that.
A long, silent beat.
And then—Sophia stands.
SOPHIA
See you at midnight.
She walks away.
Ava watches her go. A storm brewing behind her eyes.
BACK TO INTERROGATION ROOM
DETECTIVE RAMIREZ
You should’ve told me Ava Liu followed Sophia onto that balcony.
Julian stares at the photo.
Then, finally, he looks up.
JULIAN
...Ava didn’t kill her.
Ramirez raises an eyebrow.
DETECTIVE RAMIREZ
You sure about that?
Julian doesn’t answer.
CUT TO—
EXT. CITY STREETS – NIGHT
Ava is running.
Through dark streets, her breath ragged. She knows.
She knows they’re onto her.
She turns a corner, stopping abruptly.
Danny stands there. Waiting.
His expression is unreadable.
DANNY
Ava.
She swallows hard.
AVA
You don’t believe them, do you?
Danny doesn’t answer.
Ava takes a step closer.
AVA
Danny. I didn’t kill Sophia.
Danny just stares at her.
Then, he pulls something from his pocket.
A gun.
DANNY
I know. I did.
Danny raises the gun and shoots Ava. He runs.
FADE TO BLACK.
