Wednesday TV Ratings 2/25/26: Scrubs Revival Starts Strong, Survivor 50 Premiere Draws Four-Year High, The Greatest Average American Below-Average [+ Analysis]

Scrubs (0.66/0.55) made a triumphant return to ABC on Wednesday night, maintaining a strong Adults 18-49 ratings presence for the full hour. At nine, The Greatest Average American (0.27) dropped dramatically from there for its series debut. But while ABC got success out of Scrubs, it was CBS's Survivor (0.95) that ultimately posted the night's highest rating, barreling past every rating from the fall for its season premiere. On Fox, The Masked Singer (0.24, -0.06) dealt with a sharp decline, but Fear Factor: House of Fear (0.28, +0.07) surged. NBC aired repeats of The Voice (0.25) and Chicago PD (0.18). Tuesday TV Ratings 2/24/26: State of the Union Down Significantly from 2025 as Fox News Narrowly Tops Coverage, Will Trent and Best Medicine Tick Up [+ Analysis]

On Tuesday night, ABC's State of the Union coverage (0.80) beat the other broadcast networks, with NBC (0.64) taking a strong second. CBS (0.43) and Fox (0.34) placed third and fourth respectively among the over-the-air options. Earlier in the night, ABC's Will Trent (0.28, +0.03) and Fox's Best Medicine (0.22, +0.02) both rose. WWE NXT (0.08, -0.01) ticked down on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat.

NBC Renew/Cancel Week 17: The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins is on the Rise

This week on the NBC Renew/Cancel, a new comedy enters the fray, which may in turn impact the odds of NBC's other new comedy. Plus, one of NBC's long-running staples returns this week on very shaky ground.

Animal Control Renewed for Season Five

Fox has ordered a fifth season of Animal Control, marking their first live-action scripted renewal of season. The series remains a modest ratings performer, but is a money-maker for Fox in other aspects, with a recent Netflix deal and international sales both boosting its rental argument. It's Fox's longest-running live action sitcom since Brooklyn Nine-Nine's debut in 2013, with that show also running five seasons on Fox. Unlike that show and most other long-running Fox sitcoms, Animal Control has always run on a more limited scale, with its twelve-episode first season being its longest season thus far, and making its episode count a bit less impressive than similarly long-running sitcoms. Still, making it to a fifth season is an achievement in any regard in this day and age, and it is Fox's longest-running live action scripted series. Joel McHale, Vella Lovell, Michael Rowland, Ravi Patel and Grace Palmer lead the principal cast of the series. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Monday TV Ratings 2/23/26: CIA Struggles in Premiere as FBI Surges to Season High, Successful Launch for The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, Memory of a Killer Sinks to a New Low [+ Analysis]

CBS's FBI (0.32, +0.05) jumped to a new season high in its return, but CIA (0.20) dropped noticeably from there for its series debut. The Neighborhood (0.31, +0.09) and DMV (0.23, +0.03) were also up from where they left off in the 8 p.m. hour. On NBC, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins (0.37) had a successful time slot premiere, growing from the pilot encore (0.35) that led into it. At nine, the return of The Voice (0.31) declined from Dinkins. American Idol (0.45, +0.04) and The Rookie (0.28, +0.06) both rose on ABC, but Extracted (0.21, -0.01) and Memory of a Killer (0.11, -0.03) lost momentum on Fox. Wild Cards (0.03, -0.03) slipped on the CW. Key: (P) = premiere. (R) = repeat.

The NBC broadcast of the Winter Olympics (1.1) dropped on Saturday, but it still managed to stay above the 1.0 mark. NBA on ABC (0.45) brought in more attention than college basketball on Fox (0.17). 48 Hours (0.12, +0.04) rose on CBS. The CW aired WWE Legends (0.07). Key: (R) = repeat.

FOX Renew/Cancel (Reality Update): House of Fear Should Have No Fear

Below are the February 22nd Fox renew/cancel predictions for reality programming in the 2025-2026 television season. The table embedded includes the Adults 18-49 ratings average of each program.

Fear Factor: House of Fear: Recently, Fox has been spreading the wealth by gifting NFL lead-ins to multiple non-animated offerings. Fear Factor: House of Fear was perhaps the luckiest beneficiary, debuting with a 1.6 rating thanks to that assistance. But the true test came when House of Fear moved to its actual home on Wednesday nights. There, it posted a 0.26 rating, retaining more than three-fourths of its lead-in. Since then, it has lost some steam, but its latest installment came with a promising uptick (0.21, +0.02). Fox clearly has confidence in this revival, as they first aired it after an NFL playoffs game and then gave it a slot behind The Masked Singer. There also appears to be genuine interest for the series on Hulu, so House of Fear begins as a likely renewal.

The Masked Singer:
If the football-inflated premiere rating was taken out of House of Fear's average, The Masked Singer would be the top-rated reality program on Fox. While it is no longer the ratings phenomenon it was in its early years, the series remains reliable and consistent. It begins as a certain renewal.

99 to Beat: 99 to Beat finished its season with a solid 0.26 rating, and it is currently scheduled to air repeats on Saturday nights until late April. The signs remain positive, so it is a likely renewal.

The Floor: Earlier this month, Fox renewed The Floor for multiple seasons. This was a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide, as it was previously listed as a certain renewal.

Next Level Chef: Next Level Chef scored a multi-season renewal in 2025, so it will be returning next season.

Next Level Baker: Next Level Baker is the lowest-rated reality series on a network that is potentially set to expand its scripted presence. Being tied to the Ramsay brand could boost its chances, but Fox has stronger options. Baker is likely to be canceled.

The Muppet Show Special Review

Few would have a bad word to say about The Muppet Show, a comedy-variety series that brought the stars of the day to the stage and made stars out of the felt creations that stood alongside them. But after the series signed off in 1981, successfully bringing the Muppets back to the small screen became an unprecedented struggle. First came The Jim Henson Hour, a 1989 NBC effort that was pulled after a handful of episodes. Then came Muppets Tonight, a hip ABC reimagining that lasted just two short seasons in the late '90s, the second of which was tossed on the Disney Channel. The franchise returned to ABC in 2015 with The Muppets, a mockumentary sitcom that started strong but lost viewers rapidly. Soon after, Kermit and the gang entered the streaming age, leading to the emergence of Muppets Now and The Muppets Mayhem on Disney Plus, but neither lasted more than a season. And now comes The Muppet Show...again, a return to the format that captivated viewers in the first place. As a whole, this half-hour showcase is well aware of what made the original series a pop-culture staple, and it sticks to the basics in an endearing way.

The Muppets have long been governed by the principle of "affectionate anarchy", a phrase often used by legendary puppeteer and film director Frank Oz. Finding the proper balance between the heart-warming and the heart-pounding is key to the development of a solid production. That balance is generally respected during this half-hour. Anarchy is on display throughout as Crazy Harry threatens to ruin Sabrina Carpenter's performance of "Manchild", and resident janitor Beauregard causes trouble during Rizzo's rendition of The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights". But then affection shines through when Kermit allows as many Muppets as possible to have a moment in the spotlight, leading to a grand performance of Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now". This serves as a tremendous ending to an episode rife with backstage drama over who gets to perform for the first show back, an apt storyline given the circumstances.

The special also excels by introducing new elements. One area where this is evident is with the expansion of the audience's role. Outside of Statler and Waldorf's quips from the balcony, the spectators in the original Muppet Show rarely had a prominent function. Here, they get a chance to interact with the stage show in front of them, with guest star Maya Rudolph and the relatively obscure Beautiful Day Monster emerging as a unique comedic duo from the crowd. Rudolph's brush with death, as a result of a Muppet Labs skit gone wrong, is an entertaining bit that occurs only because new avenues have been opened up.

The return of The Muppet Show will not delight all. Many iconic recurring sketches are absent, and viewers may have trouble adjusting to Kermit the Frog's new voice. But when a franchise has provided so many different movies, shows, and specials over the years, there is no possible way to cater to everyone. One Muppet enthusiast is not going to want the same final product as another, and it is a difficult task to match the magic of the puppeteers who are no longer with us. And yet, the cast and crew still come close to replicating the charm of The Muppet Show. Even the little things, like Gonzo losing control of his skates or Zoot finding one of Beaker's eyeballs in his saxophone, reveal that the writers understand how to form sight gags true to the spirit of the source material. And while this special provides longtime fans with a trip down memory lane, it also gives newcomers a sample of the infectious joy that these characters have supplied for so long. That is about all one could ask of a Muppet production in 2026.

Grade: A-

Wednesday TV Ratings 2/4/26: The Muppet Show Impressive, Shifting Gears Rises for Finale, The Masked Singer Tumbles to Series Low [+ Analysis]

It was time to light the lights on Wednesday night as The Muppet Show (0.52) returned for a new installment for the first time in decades. The ABC showing of the special was the highest-rated broadcast of the evening in the Adults 18-49 demographic, rising by a tenth from an already strong Abbott Elementary (0.42, +0.02). Earlier in the night, Shifting Gears (0.39, +0.03) enjoyed a nice finale uptick. On CBS, The Price Is Right At Night (0.39, +0.08) surged, but Hollywood Squares (0.20, -0.07) plummeted. Chicago Med (0.36, +0.05), Chicago Fire (0.34, +0.09), and Chicago PD (0.28, +0.06) all soared on NBC. Fox's The Masked Singer (0.20, -0.14) and Fear Factor: House of Fear (0.19, -0.07) were pushed to later slots and collapsed as a result. Police 24/7 (0.04, 0.00) was stable on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.
