1983-84 Top 30 Ratings -- Despite Softer Ratings, Nothing Cancelled at the Top

Written Asking Who Webster is by Bridger Cunningham

No changes in ranks occurred this year, though NBC finally held steady.  ABC and CBS enjoyed their soaps traipsing the Nielsens with bigger ratings than their ladies' hats and shoulder pads.  Sitcoms began to age and fall deeper in the ranks, along with ABC's fantasy era from the late 70's.  Happy Days and Fantasy Island were nowhere to be found in this set of numbers, and only Kate & Allie on CBS emerged in the front of the pack.  Big changes swept the landscape the following season, as the spring of 1984 saw ABC beginning what would be a 4-year freefall.
