New Show Hit/Miss Fall 2016 - American Housewife

The fall season is almost here, so it won't be long before we get our surprise successes like Dr. Ken last year and surprise failures, like The Muppets last year. To find out what American Housewife might be, I will look at the factors that may cause it to do well or poorly, in this final installment of new show hit/miss for the fall 2016 cycle.

What May Cause American Housewife to be a Hit?

On-brand for ABC
What works on ABC? Family comedy! We know it, ABC finally knows it, and that's why American Housewife fits in.

The Middle lead-in
A solid lead-in always helps, and American Housewife has one in The Middle. The Middle anchored Wednesday nights for six years, and is now moving over to anchor Tuesday, where American Housewife gets it as a lead-in.

What May Cause American Housewife to be a Miss for ABC?

Issues for Tuesday comedy
Tuesday comedy has been a struggle for ABC, but Fresh Off the Boat finally was somewhat successful on the night. Now, the night is expanding to two hours, but is it ready? And will The Middle still get good ratings on Tuesday? American Housewife could end up airing on a low-rated night.

Trailer not well liked
According to the trailer-watching article, the trailer for American Housewife got a 74 like/dislike ratio. That is lower than all of the other new ABC shows, especially the other new comedy, Speechless, which got a 96.

What to Expect for American Housewife?

I think that the trailer reception will be the biggest factor affecting this show. I don't think it will be a massive failure, but I expect low ratings.

Which factors do you think will be the most in-play in causing American Housewife to be a hit or a miss? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
