It was a quiet week on CBS this week, but that doesn't mean it's another quiet week of the CBS Renew/Cancel, as it's time for multiple prediction changes this week, including one show's prediction shifting from a renewal to a cancellation. Keep reading to see which shows are on the move!

Week 7 Predictions:

DMV: DMV is not doing well, but CBS is still going out of their way to report its multi-platform ratings, unlike other underperforming shows. They also noted it's the #1 new comedy when unveiling their midseason schedule. While the competition for that title is almost non-existent (Stumble is the only other new comedy this fall, aside from the broadcast run of Peacock original The Paper), it does say something that CBS went out of their way to brag about its performance. It sure seems that CBS wants to renew this show, which has gotten more support than Poppa's House ever did. In the months between CBS's midseason finales and their midseason returns, they'll broadcast 18 reruns of DMV's 9 episodes to air thus far, including some after the anniversary re-airings of the Survivor. They seem truly desperate to make this show work and expand its audience. They also continue to promote the show on the Paramount+ home page, despite middling results there. For now, CBS still appears to be behind the show, which you couldn't really say about Poppa's which matters more than its ratings. It still leans renewal.
NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney: Also not doing well, and going right back to where it was post-crossover, is NCIS: Origins. CBS has not talked about its multi-platform viewership AT ALL this season, whereas they went out of their way to report on DMV's below-the-chart numbers twice. This is a glaring difference from how CBS treated it last season, when it was a top twenty performer on broadcast, and they made sure everyone knew it. Like DMV, it's reruns galore over the winter, which could be a sign of desperately trying to grow an audience, but for a sophomore show that's already airing in a very desirable time slot, sit creams makegoods more than anything else, attempting to give pay back advertisers who paid for ads for a show with higher ratings than Origins is currently delivering. Its best case for renewal is CBS wanting to keep a second NCIS on the air without developing a new show or transitioning Tony & Ziva, because Sydney is being shunned just as much and is performing even worse. Both lean cancellation at this stage, and NCIS Tuesdays is a glaring failure, a lineup formed years too late.
Sheriff Country and Fire Country: Something is happening right now that is almost never seen: a show's first spinoff is outperforming the supposed franchise starter. Sheriff Country's success is incredibly validating for CBS and their 'long-term development' plan, but Fire Country's collapse is just as concerning. It's one of just four scripted shows CBS has avoided mentioning multiplatform viewership for, not to mention ranking 11th out of 15 on linear in both A18-49 demo and L+SD viewership. After a strong premiere at 8, Fire Country is now trailing Sheriff Country by upwards of a full tenth each week at this point, and it's consistently the least-watched show in the Friday lineup, too. Nielsen's recent release of MP+7 ratings revealed that, at the very best, Fire Country is trailing Sheriff County by 800,000 viewers (Nielsen relies the top twenty shows of the season, and Sheriff Country is averaging 7.6 million, while the #20 show is averaging 6.8 million, with Fire Country not on the list). At the rate things are going, CBS may have to discuss if Sheriff Country is a Country franchise expander or a Fire Country replacement. That's not a discussion that will happen this year though, as a Fire Country cancelation would make Sheriff look like a failure when it clearly is not -- in fact, all signs point to a renewal, and if Fire is a certain renewal (which it still is, having gone into the season as a potential franchise starter), then so is Sheriff.
