Songs and Stories with Kelly Clarkson: Tuesday night is one of two nights being fully programmed by NBC through the summer, and boy, has it ever been a mixed bag for them. They found a respectable 10 PM performer in Destination X (though even that show had some rough points after its promising start, though it ended up looking well enough), but America's Got Talent has been stuck at some of its all-time lowest ratings as of late, and it's looking like it's well past its prime. Given the ratings of the rest of the shows airing in the summer, that's likely not a major concern for NBC. What's been even worse, though, is that Destination X wrapped up its season in just ten weeks, exiting the airwaves before August even rolled around. NBC didn't really seem to know how to fill the last roughly two months of summer, so they're airing some filler. First announced in May, Songs and Stories with Kelly Clarkson is based on a segment from Clarkson's daytime talk show. It debuted last week, after repeats of Monday night flop Survival Mode occupied the post-AGT slot for the previous two weeks. It did manage to improve on those repeats, but that's really the bare minimum. Its 0.15 premiere rating put it just a single hundredth above an NCIS: Sydney repeat on CBS, and it held just 47% of its already-diminished AGT lead-in. I don't think that NBC was expecting this show to be any sort of a hit, and it's arguably no weaker than some of the far more expensive scripted shows that they renewed. But at just four episodes, it also feels purely like filler, used to keep the slot warm and avoid having to air repeats for nearly two full months. NBC likely never expected this to be a long-running series, and thus far, its ratings don't give them any reason to bother bringing it back. NBC clearly has plenty of room in the summer, given that Wednesday and Thursday nights are both mostly vacant, but next summer will likely have enough programming already. Destination X looks like a decent bet to return, and Password has returned to production for another season. I can't imagine NBC being in desperate need of filler for this slot again, but if they are, they probably still won't bring this back when it's barely outperforming repeats. This filler program will be quickly forgotten, and it's a LIKELY CANCELLATION.

LEGO Masters Jr.: Oddly enough, we got two four-episode filler shows premiering last week, giving us our final premieres of the season. Of the two, LEGO Masters Jr. is the one that looks much more likely to return. LEGO Masters itself has never been a major hit, and this season averaged 0.18 in the key demo. LEGO Masters Jr. premiered right in line with that average. While that's not an impressive demo in itself, it's a fine performance for Fox, and it's about as good as Fox could've expected from a spinoff of an already low-rated series. The holiday-themed "Celebrity Bricktacular" spinoff series has been renewed the last few years with similar ratings, so it doesn't seem unlikely that a short-order kids spinoff could also hang around for a few years, too. Its ratings are perfectly in-line with Fox's other summer shows (except The Snake, which is on its own low-rated island) and if they were good enough for its parent show to survive, then I think it's enough for this one, too. It's possibly that Fox decides to scale back on the LEGO Masters franchise, given that it's not all that high-rated, but I'm not betting on that. It LEANS RENEWAL. It's likely less safe than most of the other Fox reality shows, but it's off to a fine start.
