HBO Max Renew/Cancel: HBO Max Has Come Back, Not Like Boomerang

Below are predictions for the two HBO Max U.S.-based non-kids scripted originals, followed by an analysis. The numbers calculated in the chart below are based off appearances on hbomax.com. Let us know what you think in the comments!

Harley Quinn
After airing its first two seasons on the now-defunct DC Universe streaming service, Harley Quinn moved to HBO Max starting in Season 3, where it has aired for three additional seasons. The most recent season premiered in January 2025 and concluded in March, and appeared on Max’s Top 10 list at least one day per week for 11 weeks.

While HBO Max could very well be ruthless enough to cancel Harley Quinn, there are also promising signs pointing to its renewal. The series has already spawned a spinoff in Kite Man: Hell Yeah!, and more are reportedly in some stage of development. Harley Quinn may not be The Pitt or an HBO original, but it’s one of the most recognizable properties in the DC Universe brand on HBO Max. A cancelation would likely mean the end of Harley Quinn not just as a show, but as an IP for the streaming service.

Kite Man: Hell Yeah!
The overall-positive outlook given to Harley Quinn cannot also be applied to its spinoff, Kite Man: Hell Yeah! The series was first commissioned in 2022 under a different name, before premiering its first season in summer 2024. Today, it’s been largely deprioritized by HBO Max. A renewal is not expected on a streaming service that has been cutting back on programming across the board, though being geared toward an adult audiences did allow this cartoon to survive quite a few cartoon purges that saw most Boomerang-branded content come and go.
