ABC Renew/Cancel Week 9: A Final Call on Not Dead Yet

Well, the end of the season is here. There's little excitement on the ABC front, though, as nearly everything has already been renewed or canceled. Only sophomore sitcom Not Dead Yet remains in limbo, so keep reading to see my final call on that single lingering show.

The Conners: Last week, it was reported that The Conners was closing a deal for a renewal for an extremely short seventh and final season, expected to run as few as six episodes. While there was some trepidation, I had always anticipated a seventh season renewal for The Conners, mainly because fellow veterans Station 19 and The Good Doctor were given the courtesy of pre-announced final seasons. If the seventh season had not been announced as the final one, I was expecting to predict it as a likely cancellation next season in the upcoming pre-season ABC Renew/Cancel. Nevertheless, this renewal ends up as a correct prediction for me.

Not Dead Yet: The only show still awaiting a renewal or cancellation is Not Dead Yet. It's not difficult to see why it's still awaiting a decision: all of the other cancellations were announced well before the season began, and this show is most likely getting canceled. Theoretically, ABC would need another comedy if they were to order both comedy pilots, as the final season of The Conners is set to run just six episode. However, I think it's far more likely that they only order one, and cut comedy down to only one hour, than actually order both and renew Not Dead Yet to fill out the block. Even if both pilots come out well, they could easily hold onto one as a new entry for the 2025-26 season - CBS did something similar with Poppa's House last year and Sheriff Country this year. Not Dead Yet has so little going for it, between its slim episode count, its even slimmer ratings, and its dropping multiplatform performance, that it's very hard to imagine a place for it on the schedule next year. ABC would be wise to move on. It's a LIKELY CANCELLATION. Chance of renewal: 25%

What you you think of my one and only prediction? What do you think will happen to Not Dead Yet? Let us know in the comments!
