ROBERT, ACE, LORENZO, BRYAN, HARRY, and MANNY are all sitting in the dugout of the Indianapolis Primitives’ bullpen.
ACE
Who’s ready for a baseball game?!
LORENZO
Not me. But I could use a burger or three.
HARRY
You know where the grill is.
BRYAN
I can’t see too well from here, but I’m pretty sure we actually made it to the game before the rest of the team.
MANNY
I see one of our guys by the dugout. Swinging the bat nonstop, doesn’t he know he also has to field? Give it a rest dude.
LORENZO
Also, the crowd feels different today.
ROBERT
What’s that supposed to mean?
LORENZO
Just the energy the crowd is giving off. They don’t seem like the usual season ticket holders.
BRYAN
It’s very impressive you can figure that given you spend almost no time on the field.
LORENZO
True, but I do tend to work the crowd. Here, watch this.
LORENZO takes two cotton candy sticks off the snack table, jumps the bullpen wall onto the warning track, and holds the cotton candy into the air. The crowd does not react in any way. LORENZO jumps back into the bullpen.
LORENZO
See what I mean? They don’t even care about my cotton candy. The home crowd loves that. Also I think I’m gonna need more of that bench than usual today, I just did a lot of exercise.
HARRY
You hopped that small wall twice.
LORENZO
Yeah, big day.
MANNY
Could it be occurring to you that maybe the crowd is just tired of your cotton candy antics?
LORENZO
No way!
BRYAN takes out a pair of binoculars.
BRYAN
Lorenzo might be onto something, there are an odd amount of people wearing other teams’ jerseys. Some of them I didn’t even know the teams were still around!
ACE
Are we at the baseball Olympics?!
MANNY
No, but I’m pretty sure we’re not at your ordinary home game either.
An announcer can be heard speaking through the entire stadium.
ANNOUNCER
Welcome to the Home Run Derby!
ROBERT
Well that explains it!
HARRY
Manny, you really didn’t know that?!
MANNY
Nobody told me! Oh well, guess we might as well leave now.
ACE
No way! I want to catch a home run ball.
A baseball goes flying into the bullpen. ACE runs to get it.
ACE
Now that I have what I wanted, I will leave. My decision.
ROBERT
I say we stay a little longer.
Home run balls start pouring into the bullpen.
ROBERT
On second thought, for the sake of not getting slammed by 20 baseballs, I’m leaving. Who’s with me?
Everyones leaves.
