The Bullpen Season 5 Episode 17: The Meeting

MANNY, LORENZO, ROBERT, ACE, HARRY, and VICTOR all meet up outside the Indianapolis Primitives’ stadium.

ROBERT

You guys ready to find that front office?

ACE

As ready as I’ll ever be.

VICTOR

So the plan is really to just walk around aimlessly until we find it?

LORENZO

I see nothing wrong with that. Let’s go!

Everyone starts walking. Eventually, they pass a closed down dining area.

LORENZO

That’d be a good place for another SugarCIty’s Kitchen, don’t you guys think?

HARRY

Lorenzo, they paid you to not be a part of the company anymore, what do you care?

LORENZO

Just pointing it out. I think it would be good for business.

MANNY

Let’s focus here, we’re looking for the general manager, remember?

ROBERT

The general manager? Why didn’t you say so? Follow me!

MANNY

The front office is where the general manager is. Did you…not know that?

ROBERT

Nope!

Everyone follows ROBERT to the front office. He knocks on the door.

GENERAL MANAGER

Come in!

Everyone walks in. The GENERAL MANAGER stares at them blankly.

GENERAL MANAGER

Well the floors aren’t gonna clean themselves, you didn’t bring any cleaning supplies?

HARRY

And just why do you think we’re here to clean your stupid floor?

GENERAL MANAGER

Well I mean I just assumed—

VICTOR

We’re on the team. We’re your bullpen.

GENERAL MANAGER

Oh. Right. Yeah we don’t have any room in the budget right now but I’ll look into it.

ROBERT

We haven’t even said what we wanted yet.

GENERAL MANAGER

And I’m not giving it to you. Look, I’m sure you guys are good guys or whatever, but you’re really not the priority you think you are. Now if you don’t mind I have work to do regarding the actual players. Please wash the floor or leave.

HARRY

Do it yourself.

GENERAL MANAGER

Excuse me?

ROBERT

Harry, focus.

MANNY

Let’s get to the point, we’re here because we heard you’re gonna get a new bullpen coach and fire Lorenzo for celebrating the other team’s Championship Series win and we—

GENERAL MANAGER

You did WHAT?!

MANNY

That’s what the allegations are, at least.

LORENZO

Watch the video, you’ll see.

MANNY

Lorenzo!

GENERAL MANAGER

I can’t have that on my team. Which one of you is Coach?

MANNY

I am.

GENERAL MANAGER

You are Coach no longer.

The GENERAL MANAGER looks to LORENZO.

GENERAL MANAGER

I can only assume that means you’re the so-called pitcher. You are relieved from your duties as a player.

MANNY

But—

GENERAL MANAGER

My decision is final.

LORENZO

You’re gonna regret this, the fans LOVE me.

GENERAL MANAGER

I can’t believe you guys are gonna make me look for a new bullpen coach and have to focus on the bullpen this year.

LORENZO

That’s what we’re here to talk about. I would like to be bullpen coach and Manny would like to be listed as a player.

GENERAL MANAGER

Makes my job easier. I’m really too busy to focus on your crap, what with the cheating scandal and all.

ACE

The cheating scandal?

GENERAL MANAGER

Crap. You heard nothing from me. Now mop my floor or leave.

Everyone leaves the GENERAL MANAGER’s office.

ROBERT

Wow, we really got through a whole meeting without even knowing our general manager’s name!

MANNY

I must say I’m impressed. And Lorenzo, congratulations, Coach.

VICTOR

Harry, why do you look horrified?

HARRY

I’ve seen Lorenzo in a managerial position before.

ROBERT

Promise not to get drunk with power after having too much cotton candy, Lorenzo? I really would not want that dream of mine to come true.

LORENZO

Come on guys, you know I’d be a great bullpen coach! First order of business: offseason practices.

ACE

WHAT?!

LORENZO

You heard me.

ACE

About time, I’m tired of having nothing to do during the offseason. Go Coach Lorenzo!

VICTOR

By the way Lorenzo, say you lose your trial, how do you suppose you coach us from jail?

LORENZO

We can figure that out another time. Now we had a long day, everyone go home and get your beauty sleep!

HARRY

That meeting didn’t last long at all.

LORENZO

It was still one of the longest baseball meetings of my life. Coach’s orders!

Everyone leaves.
