Monarch Canceled by Fox

Fox's monarchy has been abolished. The country music soap Monarch has been canceled after a single season, less than twenty-four hours after its first season finale aired. That finale, which will now serve as a series finale, tied the show's season low in the key 18-49 demo, with only a 0.17. Despite being billed as starring Oscar-winning household name Susan Sarandon, Monarch was an embarrassing ratings performer for its entire run, with a weak post-NFL premiere that only led to even worse ratings as the season progressed. Its 0.27 season average, inflated heavily by that post-NFL premiere (it never went above a 0.24 in its regular time slot), tied it for the fifth-lowest scripted show on broadcast TV this season in the 18-49 demo. It's part of a long line of new fall drama fails on Fox in recent years, and much like The Big Leap and Filthy Rich before it, Fox didn't even bother waiting until May to cancel it. Anna Friel, Trace Adkins, Beth Ditto and Joshua Safran comprised the principal cast of the series alongside the aforementioned Sarandon. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.
