Summer Renew/Cancel Week 1: ABC Game Shows Start the Season Off Right

It's time for the first week of the Summer Renew/Cancel, and there's already a ton to cover. Card Sharks and Press Your Luck: Two of four new games shows on ABC's Summer 2019 lineup, and the only two new shows based on classic game shows. They didn't necessarily start huge, but their 0.8/0.9 premieres are more than respectable for summer fare that must be very cheap to produce. Obviously they could collapse in the future a la Battle of the Network Stars, but for now it looks good. Both are LIKELY RENEWALS.

Match Game: One of the biggest surprises thus far was the resurgence of Match Game, which seriously struggled in-season and, despite easily being the bright spot of last year's Thursday lineup, still wasn't all that strong then.It posted 100% retention from Card Sharks and did better than Whiskey Cavalier and some Wednesday Million Little Things airings in that slot. The show is decent filler, and I can't see it being in any danger this time around. It starts as a CERTAIN RENEWAL.

Grand Hotel: This one is hard, because there just isn't any data beyond the middling premiere. Even though 0.7 isn't all that impressive for a premiere, 10 PM isn't exactly the home of massive players. The show could have a solid post-premiere hold, and a 0.6 is probably something renewable for ABC at this point. Their summer lineup isn't that full, so holding on to a low but acceptable player isn't out of the question. That's why it'll end up in the LEANS CANCELLATION category for now.
