Ratings Report Card: CBS Reality

To follow up on yesterday's post, here's some ratings, analysis, and grades for CBS's reality shows that have already finished for the season, or at least are on an extended hiatus. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Survivor (Fall)
Ratings

Survivor had a pretty stellar season. While lead-out Criminal Minds has been shedding viewers, Survivor is down no more than what the average show is down, and you can't argue with a show that as of this writing averaged over 140% of CBS's total non-sports average. It gets serious competition from both ABC and FOX, and yet has still proven to be a reality staple.

Grade: A-

Hunted
Ratings

Did Hunted do enough for another go-around? I suppose so. But it didn't really do anything that Undercover Boss or The Amazing Race couldn't have done. They probably expected more given that massive exposure, but on the bright side it was incredibly steady throughout its Wednesday run.

Grade: C+

Undercover Boss
Ratings

It's unclear when, if ever, Undercover Boss will return, nor is it clear if those episodes will be considered part of this season. But I'm grading it anyways. As you can see, Undercover Boss only did a tad worse than Hunted, and like Hunted was very steady throughout. Being down 22% from last year's raw A18-49 Live + Same Day ratings though isn't all that great though, especially considering it didn't have a better situation last season. It's still good as a spackle option, though it should have done a bit better.

Grade: C

TV Ratings 3/1/17: Chicago Justice Starts Well, PD & Fire Soar, When We Rise Lower (UPDATED)

Wednesday night was an unusual night, with ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC having irregular nights, including a Chicago Crossover, some repeats, and out of time slot airings. The Chicago Crossover was very successful, easily giving NBC #1 for the night. Chicago Justice started its run with a 1.7, while PD jumped six tenths from last week and Fire jumped one. On ABC, the Goldbergs fell a tenth, while Modern Family's first 8:30 airing held steady with last week. ABC had a rough night though, only because of When We Rise, which was down a tenth from its (already low) start and dropped to a 0.4 before the night was over. CBS was Doubt-less this week, with a Bull repeat taking the 10 PM slot until CM:BB returns next week. The repeat was an improvement on Doubt. Elsewhere in their night, Criminal Minds fell a tenth and Hunted held steady for the finale. Fox's Lethal Weapon was off, leading into a new low for Star. The CW's Arrow ticked back up from its low last week.

Finals Update: The Goldbergs (+0.1) and Criminal Minds (+0.1) adjusted up.

TV Ratings 2/22/17: Blackish Rises, Arrow hits Series Low, Doubt Goes Lower (UPDATED)

Wednesday night was "normal" last night for the final time in a few weeks, and some shows will be taking breaks or ending their seasons in upcoming weeks. ABC's Match Game concluded its season last night, tied with its season low. The Goldbergs and Speechless, also on ABC, were both down a tenth. Black-ish (at least preliminarily) rose. On the CW, Arrow fell to a new low, with The 100 holding its 0.4 once again. On CBS, the first two hours were steady, but Doubt tumbled two tenths to a very ugly 0.6, making it CBS' lowest rated M-F series already. Fox's Lethal Weapon, fresh off renewal, dipped, but Star held. On NBC, Blindspot tied its series low, while SVU dipped again and PD was flat.

Finals Update: The Goldbergs (+0.1), Speechless (+0.1) and Lethal Weapon (+0.1) adjusted up.

TV Ratings 2/15/17: Doubt Starts Badly, Modern Family Dips (UPDATED)

Wednesday night saw the first night of CBS' new series Doubt. The show started much lower than Code Black did this season, while lead-in Criminal Minds was up from last week and Hunted was steady. On ABC, Modern Family dipped three tenths, while Speechless and Match Game were down one. Blackish and the Goldbergs held steady with last week's final ratings. On NBC, SVU took a small dip after its 400th episode boost, while Blindspot was down and Chicago PD was steady. On the CW, The 100 and Arrow were again steady. TV Ratings 2/8/17: SVU Episode 400 Higher, Code Black Ends Lower, Criminal Minds Hits Low (UPDATED)

Wednesday night was the first regular night in awhile. ABC's lineup returned, as did NBC's. On NBC, SVU aired its 400th episode, and it was up from its latest episode. Chicago PD was not helped by the big lead in, and was down. Blindspot stayed steady at a series low. CBS had a rough night. It saw a new low for Hunted and Criminal Minds, as well as a low-end episode of Code Black. Over on ABC, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, Speechless, Blackish, and Match Game were all down from their latest night that they aired together. Star on Fox was steady while Lethal Weapon fell a tenth. Over on the CW, Arrow and The 100 stayed at last week's levels.

Finals Update: The Goldbergs (+0.1), Blindspot (+0.1) and Modern Family (+0.1) adjusted up. Blackish (-0.1) adjusted down.
