Chicago Justice Canceled by NBC

The Ratings Junkie Monday, May 22, 2017
NBC

NBC has canceled a Chicago show for the first time. After airing just one season, Chicago Justice has been canceled. The series aired on Sunday nights and averaged a 1.1 in the 18-49 ratings. The other three shows Chicago shows, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD, have been renewed. The series was created by Dick Wolf and focused on a team of investigators and prosecutors in Chicago's State's Attorney's office. Phillip Winchester, Jon Seda, Joelle Carter, Monica Barbaro, and Carl Weathers starred in the series. This was an incorrect prediction by the TV Ratings Guide, and basically the entire Internet.

What do you think of the news? Are you sad that the gang won't be back for a second season? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

TV Ratings 5/14/17: NCIS: LA and Chicago Justice Go Out Strong, OUAT Ends Up, Miss USA Fails (UPDATED)

It was a finale-and-special-filled Sunday, with Little Big Shots, NCIS: LA and Chicago Justice leading the pack as usual. Fox's lineup took the night off for Miss USA, which was a total disaster. The pageant was down four tenths from last year, to a meager 0.8. It wasn't helped out by low-end repeats of the Simpsons and Bob's Burgers. ABC had a season finale that arguably should have been the series finale of Once Upon a Time, which was up from the highly promoted musical. Its lead in was a OUAT recap special that did worse than a typical AFV rating. Match Game aired at 10 and things did not go well. CBS's 60 Minutes had a strong night, leading into an even stronger NCIS: LA. As always, Madam Secretary and Elementary were anemic. On NBC, Little Big Shots remained #1, while Chicago Justice stayed strong and Shades of Blue ticked up to a healthy 0.9.

Finals Update: NCIS: LA's finale (+0.1) adjusted up. The Simpsons (R) (-0.1) adjusted down.

TV Ratings 5/7/17: Once Down for Musical Episode, Last Man Ends Down, Lady Di Special Solid for ABC

Sunday night was a rather odd night for broadcast. Some shows were down a lot, some shows were up a lot, and a Princess Diana special absolutely crushed American Crime's ratings. Speaking of that Diana special, it pulled a very respectable 0.9, up from both Match Game's 0.8 and American Crime's 0.4. Even more impressive is that it pulled these ratings with a weaker Once Upon a Time as a lead-in. The highly anticipated and advertised Once Upon a Time musical episode was down from last week, at a 0.8. Once's lead-in, America's Funniest Home Videos, was down two tenths, but still was tied for #2 for the night. #1 was NBC's Little Big Shots, which itself took a steep three tenth fall. It's still doing very well for Sundays, but it's not the monster it once was. Chicago Justice and Shades of Blue were both affected by weaker lead-ins, with both down a tenth. Over on CBS, their bookends 60 Minutes and Elementary were both up. Over on Fox, Bob's Burgers had a great night, pulling a 0.9, improving on much of its post-DST ratings in the slot. Speaking of the rest of the lineup, The Simpsons continued to be strong, while Making History continued to be weak. The Last Man on Earth got the honor of airing two episodes directly out of Making History, and the result was a new series low.

TV Ratings 4/16/17: Bee Gees Special Dominates Easter Sunday (UPDATED)

Sunday night was Easter, but it didn't drag any of the original programs down too much. On ABC, Once Upon a Time avoided a new low, though lead-out Match Game did tie a low. American Crime stayed at the horrific (but not series low) 0.4 from last week. Little big Shots took the week off, with Chicago Justice and Shades of Blue having to air with little help. They did well, with Justice down a tenth and Shades steady. CBS was the clear winner on Easter Sunday, with their Bee Gees special destroying most of the competition and up three tenths from the closest competition. Its lead in was 60 Minutes, which was down 7 tenths without the Masters to boost it. Elementary closed out the night for CBS, and it wasn't helped at all by a larger lead in. Fox was still in repeat mode, and it showed, with low numbers all night long.

Finals Update: A Bob's Burgers repeat (+0.1) adjusted up.
