NBC Renew/Cancel Week 13: The Hunting Party Gives NBC a Prime Hunting Ground

The NBC Renew/Cancel is finally back for its first edition of 2026, with two new entries to discuss, including the return of low-rated sophomore drama The Hunting Party!

Monday TV Ratings 1/19/26: College Football Championship Up Massively from 2025, NBA Leads Quiet Night on Broadcast [+ Analysis]

On a repeat-filled night, NBA on NBC (0.26) was the top-rated network television offering, even as it remained at a modest level. ABC aired repeats of Will Trent (0.19/0.12) and Dirty Talk (0.09). CBS went with encores of The Neighborhood (0.16), DMV (0.12), FBI (0.11), and NCIS: Origins (0.09). Fox was a notch below that with encores of Hell's Kitchen (0.08) and Doc (0.08). NCIS: Origins, Tracker, Elsbeth & Matlock Among Ten CBS Renewals

CBS has issued another early mass renewal, with ten fall series now confirmed to join Sheriff Country and Boston Blue on next year's schedule, leaving just three series from their fall schedule in limbo. Tuesday night's NCIS lineup of NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and NCIS: Sydney will all be back next season, potentially keeping that block together for another year. Wednesday reality hits Survivor and The Amazing Race have also been renewed. The Thursday lineup is also returning in full, with sitcom Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage and legal drama Matlock earning third seasons and Elsbeth being granted a fourth season pickup, with Ghosts having already been renewed back in February 2025. Fire Country has also been renewed for a fifth season, now confirmed to join its spinoff on the schedule next year. And, in perhaps the least-surprising decision of the year, CBS has picked up a fourth season of breakout hit drama Tracker, the only Sunday night series currently confirmed to be returning. DMV, Watson, and reality series The Road are all still in limbo. All but NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney are correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Fox aired repeats of Best Medicine (0.07), Doc (0.07), Animal Control (0.06), and Going Dutch (0.04). Key: (R) = repeat.

NBC's Saturday Night Live (0.63, -0.28) was down by nearly three-tenths for its first episode of 2026, despite the presence of Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard and musical guest A$AP Rocky. On CBS, a massive NFL lead-in boosted a Final Twist rerun (0.66) to lofty heights, and some of that help trickled down to the original episode of 48 Hours (0.21, +0.07). ABC aired repeats of 9-1-1: Nashville (0.08/0.07/0.06), while the CW went with encores of TV We Love (0.01/0.01). Key: (R) = repeat.

Fox sitcom Going Dutch (0.10) returned for season two in poor shape, setting a new series low out the gate. Earlier in the night, Animal Control (0.15, -1.05) was, unsurprisingly, way down from its football boosted premiere, while Hell's Kitchen (0.24, +0.03) grew slightly at eight. Over on ABC, dramas 9-1-1 (0.37, +0.06), 9-1-1: Nashville (0.25, +0.07), and Grey's Anatomy (0.17, +0.02) all rose from their week-ago returns. Law & Order (0.29, 0.00) and Law & Order: SVU (0.30, 0.00) matched last week's ratings on NBC, but The Hunting Party (0.17, +0.07) surged after a disappointing premiere. CBS aired repeats of Georgie & Mandy (0.22), Ghosts (0.17), and Matlock (0.14/0.13). The CW aired more Trivial Pursuit encores (0.06/0.04). Key: (P) = premiere. (R) = repeat.

Wednesday TV Ratings 1/14/26: Dirty Talk Decent on ABC, Abbott Elementary and Shifting Gears Jump to Season Highs, The Masked Singer Down [+ Analysis]

Shifting Gears (0.45, +0.04) and Abbott Elementary (0.43, +0.09) jumped to new season highs on ABC, and Dirty Talk (0.25) debuted with a decent rating at nine, but Shark Tank (0.12, -0.03) could not stop the bleeding at ten. On NBC, Chicago Med (0.34, +0.05), Chicago Fire (0.31, +0.02), and Chicago PD (0.28, +0.02) all rose. Hollywood Squares (0.25, -0.01) and The Price Is Right At Night (0.30, -0.02) declined on CBS, as did The Masked Singer (0.29, -0.05) on Fox. Key: (R) = repeat.

Tuesday TV Ratings 1/13/26: High Potential Nears Season High, Will Trent and The Rookie Also Rise, Best Medicine Decent, Harlan Coben’s Final Twist Higher in New Time Slot [+ Analysis]

ABC's revamped Tuesday lineup blossomed in week two as Will Trent (0.40, +0.06), High Potential (0.41, +0.08), and The Rookie (0.29, +0.03) all rose from their previous installments. On Fox, Best Medicine (0.23, -0.22) looked serviceable in its time slot premiere, down a little more than two-tenths from its NFL-fueled launch. At nine, Doc (0.20, -0.02) dipped. On CBS, Final Twist (0.18, +0.05) built on its Wednesday debut, likely benefiting from the earlier time slot. NBA on NBC (0.4) was up from last week, but WWE NXT (0.09, -0.01) ticked down on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat.

Monday TV Ratings 1/12/26: St. Denis Medical Slides to Season Low, Texans/Steelers NFL Playoff Game Dominates, Brilliant Minds Hits New Series Low [+ Analysis]

Just one week after it rose to a new season high, NBC comedy St. Denis Medical (0.24, -0.13) came crashing down, now at a tie with its previously set season low! The Wall (0.12, -0.07) also took a sizable step down, and Brilliant Minds (0.10, -0.01) dropped to a new series low at ten. The NBC declines could potentially be blamed on ABC's dominance, as the latter aired a mammoth NFL playoffs game (2.84). CBS aired repeats of The Neighborhood (0.17), DMV (0.15), FBI (0.14), and NCIS: Origins (0.12). Fox aired reruns of Best Medicine (0.14) and Doc (0.07). The CW matched the Doc rerun in the demo with an 8 p.m. encore of Penn & Teller: Fool Us (0.07). Key: (R) = repeat.

ABC Sets Premiere Date for RJ Decker, Moves The Rookie to Mondays

The Rookie is on the move once again. The veteran ABC drama just premiered its eighth season, and it'll be switching time slots before the month is finished. Beginning January 26th, the series will be airing Mondays at 10 PM behind American Idol, where it will run uninterrupted through May 4th. It's the first time ABC has aired a scripted series on Monday since The Good Doctor in 2023, as well as The Rookie's first time airing on Mondays. The Monday at 10 slot had been left vacant in ABC's midseason announcement, after they used it to air Hulu repeats last season. The Rookie's final Tuesday episode will air next week. The move makes room for new drama RJ Decker, which has been set for a March 3rd debut at 10 PM, airing behind High Potential. ABC has not yet confirmed an episode count for the first season of RJ Decker, which is one of just three new scripted series on ABC this season, but it is believed to be for nine episodes.
