1. Warner Bros. Discovery is shutting down their paid streaming service Boomerang, which hosted a library of old cartoons (the Boomerang cable network will continue to exist). While most Boomerang shows are already also available on Max, Warner Bros. Discovery has acknowledged that not all Boomerang content may be available on their flagship streaming service. This includes The Road Runner Show, which aired on Saturday mornings in the mid 1960s and early 1970s, and the Foghorn Leghorn library, which dates back to 1942. Boomerang subscribers will automatically receive a subscription to Max’s Ad-Free tier, despite the latter being far more expensive than the former. Noting all this, do you think Warner Bros. Discovery made the right decision or the wrong decision to shut down the Boomerang streaming service?
2. Syfy & USA Network have canceled Chucky after three seasons, marking the end of high-budget scripted programming on Syfy. Do you think it is the right move or the wrong move to transition Syfy away from high-budget scripted programming like Chucky?
3. CNN recently premiered Have I Got News For You on Saturday nights, a remake of the British game show of the same name. Hosted by Roy Wood Jr., formerly of Comedy Central The Daily Show, Have I Got News For You is the latest political comedy program on a cable news channel. Do you think the expansion into comedy, which also includes CNN’s condensed reruns of Real Time With Bill Maher as well as Fox News’s Gutfeld! and FOX News Saturday Night with Jimmy Failla, is a good idea or a bad idea?
