Sony Pictures Television has commissioned a sequel series to S.W.A.T., which aired its series finale on CBS on Friday, May 16. Titled S.W.A.T. Exiles, the 10-episode series is set to begin filming this summer and is being shopped to broadcast networks, cable networks, and streaming services. S.W.A.T. series lead Shemar Moore is set to reprise his role, with S.W.A.T. Exiles also sharing a production team with the CBS series. The development of S.W.A.T. Exiles comes after S.W.A.T. itself had previously been uncanceled twice, ultimately airing 163 episodes across 8 seasons.
The official series log line of the series is as follows: “After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Hondo is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squard of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who is he.”
