24 Hours To Hell and Back: I held off on a certain renewal label last week despite 24 Hours' very strong premiere. That's because last year's 9 PM Ramsay entry The F Word fell apart in week two and never recovered. Fortunately, 24 Hours didn't do the same, holding up very well in week 2 and tying MasterChef. It's currently the #1 show on Fox this summer, and even if it falls behind MasterChef, that's still more than enough to satisfy Fox, which has much bigger fish to fry. It's now a CERTAIN RENEWAL.
The Gong Show: The variety/game show was a ratings disappointment and later an outright flop during its first season, so the expectations for its second season weren't too high. And it still disappointed. It started season two with a 0.5, a number that would only be considered good if the show aired on The CW. There's really no way to spin that. While it survived season one despite its finale hitting 0.5, I don't expect a repeat here. It's LIKELY CANCELED.
Match Game: A 0.7 isn't an inherently good rating. It's pretty mediocre, even for Summer. However, Match Game's 0.7 came in between two 0.5s, which makes ABC's blank-filled game show look a lot better. This is also an improvement over its results against the Winter Olympics this year, which is some additional positive news. It's not out of the woods yet, and the show is no hit, but it's probably not done yet. It's LIKELY RENEWED.
Running Wild with Bear Grylls: NBC did something incredibly foolish when they decided to use this outdoor survival series to lead off its Monday lineup, bumping longtime slot occupant American Ninja Warrior to 9 PM. This has worked out terribly, with both Running Wild and ANW down heavily. On Monday night, RW dipped to 0.6, just a tenth above its series low, which aired the Saturday before premiere week 2017. That's an unacceptable number for a show being used to lead a night, especially when ANW was doing a perfectly fine job in the same role last season. I think NBC's gonna be running away from this one, and it's been downgraded to LEANS CANCELLATION.
What do you think of my predictions? Where would you place 24 Hours To Hell and Back? Let me know in the comments and don't forget to vote in the poll of the week!
